Take Two Moons & Call Me In The Morning

June 4 – August 1, 2026
Opening Thursday, June 4th, 4–7pm

Ceremonial/Art is thrilled to present Chipewyan (Dënesųłinë́) artist Jake Kimble’s inaugural solo exhibition in Vancouver Take Two Moons & Call Me In The Morning. Thinking about photography through a Northern lens and how healing the cold can be, Kimble brings forth new works that were developed over the course of their 2 month residency at the Klondike Institute of Art In Culture in Dawson City, Yukon. Acts of self-care, self-repair, & a cheeky disposition towards survivance are all at play in this new body of work.

We are thrilled to share that Krystle Silverfox was announced as one of the long listed artists for the 2026 Sobey Award, Canada’s most established contemporary visual arts prize. “The photo series (We Are Our Own Heroes) depicts the relationships that we cultivate in urban centres, often far from our communities, a kinship that exists on concrete land. This series of images feature Indigenous presence in the city. Starting with memory, I am thinking about growing up in East Vancouver and what that experience was like for me. It feels like it could represent any of our aunties and this piece to me really feels like a way to take up space in places that were not always welcoming or safe for us.”

Gussied Up:
“...as in decorated, to make more attractive by adding something beautiful or becoming. Two series of works that explore adornment; works that evoke histories of Indigenous aesthetics and material culture. Referencing and Inspired by beadwork and quillwork as ways of showing place, culture and community. The photo series depicts the relationships that we cultivate in urban centres, often far from our communities; a kinship that exists on concrete land. Paired with cyanotype elkhide prints that are sewn together which evoke traditional quillwork patterns. These works serve as records of gathering medicines and images on the land and the histories of these living materials.”

Land, Embodied: An Interview with Krystle Silverfox

We are pleased to share a new interview featuring Krystle Silverfox in conversation with Wahsontiio Cross, Associate Curator at the National Gallery of Canada. Silverfox discusses her work, including the above work Copper + Concrete, which was created for the 2022 Sobey Shortlist exhibition and is now held in the National Gallery of Canada’s collection.

“In this work, the copper is meant to protect the stones. Wrapping these pieces of concrete with copper is an act of care. The concrete itself – because I grew up in Vancouver – references the land where I grew up, but the concrete actually comes from Whitehorse. I like to tell people that when we have this relationship with the land, we often think about the land under our feet. So, for people who don’t live in the city, they can have a more, I guess, special relationship with the land. As I grew up as an urban Indigenous woman, I feel like my relationship to the land refers more to the concrete, as if the concrete is the land. The four pieces, they reference the medicine wheel, because they are put in the Four Directions, the dark piece points north.”

Jake Kimble closed out 2025 with a residency at Macaulay House in Dawson City, where he continued his ongoing series of prints on paper towel, Pick It Up, Quick. This body of work uses the absorbent nature of the material as a metaphor for “soaking up” the artist’s homelands, territories, and memories. Kimble explores ideas of knowledge absorption while challenging conventional fine art standards, and reflects on his experience growing up in the North, highlighting the ways artists in remote communities use materials that are accessible and available to them.

“I want to soak up these times and keep them with me forever. I imagine my brain a paper towel and keeping these memories in the folds keeps me warm when I am cold.” - Jake Kimble
