We’re excited to introduce Les in our meet the staff series! Les is our wonderful Collections Assistant here at the Uxbridge Historical Centre! 💜

Les, a former intern, is returning to the UHC as the Collections Assistant for the summer! He brings a welcoming, hard-working, and friendly presence to the museum grounds each day. He is always happy to provide research assistance and tours that help make everyone’s experience enjoyable.

Les’ favourite building at UHC is Scott Hall because I’m apart of the Scott Hall exhibit planning project!🖼️✏️📐

An invitation to the reading of The Uxbridge Poems by Bruce Brandon!

Join the USHS on June 10th in the Quaker Hill Schoolhouse with Uxbridge local, Bruce Brandon.

From Bruce:
‘I have been writing what some may call poems for as long as I can remember, more than 350 poems in all. When our family moved to Uxbridge in 1945, I was an infant. By the time I finished listening to stories told by Miss Anderson to her grade two students, I could see that people and places close at hand were worth writing about. . In this volume I have collected those that are most representative of the Uxbridge that I have experienced. I hope you enjoy hearing them.’

June is National Indigenous History Month — a time to recognize, learn, and honour the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

The Uxbridge Historical Centre would like to acknowledge that the Township of Uxbridge is situated on the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, Mississauga, and Chippawa (Anishinabe) Peoples. These lands are covered under the Williams Treaties and remain home to many Indigenous communities today. We honour and respect Indigenous Peoples as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we live, work, and play.

One of the most meaningful ways to deepen our understanding is through Indigenous voices and storytelling. Take time this month to read a book, listen to music, watch a film, attend a cultural event, or support Indigenous artists, educators, and community leaders.
