L'arterie

L'arterie Besides a pottery studio, my gallery is filled with work made in the shop by me and other artists covering a variety of media and styles.

I founded l’arterie in 1995 in South Africa. Although only opening my gallery in 2014 my interest in pottery and art goes back over thirty years. I am an artist with a strong social orientation, who believes that the environment in which we live significantly influences our behavior, attitude and actions. In April 2017 I lost my daughter, Gil, to suicide due to bullying. Volunteering in the commun

ity was a huge part of Gil's life, including several years of mentoring a "little sister" as part of Youth Assisting Youth (YAY) in Toronto. The volunteer work of YAY mentors has a huge, lasting positive impact on the youth they mentor and on themselves. We have established the Gil Orbach Joy Scholarship fund to continue Gil's work by awarding two post-secondary scholarships of $1,800 each to volunteer YAY mentors every year since 2019. Our goal is to raise $100,000 in order to be able to give two scholarships each year in perpetuity. To this end I'm happy to announce I am now donating the proceeds of every sale to this scholarship. We have a website to help us promote Gil's legacy and raise funds. You can find the site at: https://gilorbachfund.ca/
