RETRACED is an interdisciplinary exhibition that traces the migration of the Takeda and Kamo families across Canada through site-specific portraits and short performance recordings. These works were created in locations tied to dancer Kate Kamo McHughโ€™s family history of forced removal, relocation, and rebuilding.

Documented by photographer Colin Boyd Shafer (Cosmopolis Toronto), the images and videos form a layered visual archive where body, land, and cultural memory intersect.

1:14am by

In the Northwest Territories, the sun lingers past midnight and a loon drifts across a mirrored lake. The stitched clock fixes the moment โ€” 1:14am โ€” when time seemed to pause.

Rooted in memory and legend, the image suggests that a loon carries wishes into being, reminding us of the wonder held between night and day.

Change of Plans -
In this photo series by Kristofer Sakamoto-Marshall branches and trunks become sculptural forms emerging from Northern Ontarioโ€™s waters.

The work draws on (solitude) and shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), inviting quiet reflection. Rooted in wabi-sabi, these weathered fragments embody impermanence, resilience, and the beauty of transformation.
