🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED | Support the 8th Hussars Museum at the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta taking place in Sussex September 10- 13.🚨



We’re calling on our local Association members and community supporters to help us with our biggest fundraiser of the year!



We need volunteers to assist with our parking operations 🗓️ September 10 – 13



👉 Why it matters: This, along with parking at the Flea Market event generate 90% of our non-grant operating budget. They are essential to keeping our museum doors open and preserving our history.



⚠️ Special Call for Fridays: We have an urgent need for extra hands on Friday, Sept 11. Friday shifts are always our toughest to cover, so if you have time to spare, we’d love to have you!

Looking for a good read or know someone who loves miltary books. The 8th Hussars Museum Book Sale continues. We have 100's of used books for sale for $1 to $2. Drop by, check it out, have a tour. We have 7 days left in our season. Closing Sept 4. Our hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm.

Time is running out to explore our great museum. We close on Friday Sept 4 at 4 PM. Check out the cool short video. Our guides give a great tour, admission is free, and there is a used book sale and gift shop on site. Open Weds to Sunday 10 AM to 6 PM.

Small museums often tell fascinating local stories. They are hidden gems often not sought out. We feel the 8th Hussars Museum is one of those gems.

Today, we would like to highlight a small museum in Saint John: Loyalist House located on the corner of Union and Germain Street. I toured the home today for the first time in 40 years and I brought my 9 year old grandson along with me. We had an excellent guide, Valerie, who was knowledgeable and entertaining, regaling us with stories of the house and it's furnishings. A small museum that delivers. Their students finish up this Friday, August 28. They plan to open for their Fall season starting on Sept. 1, at 9:00 am. They plan to be open Monday to Friday, 9 to 4, until the end of October. If you have a chance, visit this gem and ask for a tour. So worth it!

And our gem of a museum, the 8th Hussars Military Museum located at 66 Broad St in Sussex, will remain open until Friday Sept 4. We are open Weds to Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Our guides also can give you a memorable tour! NB's small museums pack a punch! Don't miss out before our guides return to school. We so appreciate them!

Summer is winding down! We have 8 more "Open" days in the season. Our guides love to give a tour in our re-organized exhibit space. We have a book sale going on (lots of military history books all for $1 to $2), a gift shop in case you want to pick up something for yourself or someone special and the Summer of History Contest continues (You could win a $500 gas card).

On behalf of the 8th Hussars Military Museum and the Sussex Army Cadet Corps, we want to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and goodwill during this past weekend’s fundraising activity. This event was a true partnership between our two organizations, and the success we achieved reflects the combined effort of all who stepped forward to help.



Thanks to your hard work, we successfully parked almost 3000 vehicles across the three days — an achievement that simply would not have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers and support team.



We also want to express our sincere gratitude to ‘B’ Squadron, 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) for making their facilities available throughout the event. Having access to rest rooms and a place to prepare meals made an enormous difference for our crews, and we are truly thankful for their generosity and support.



A large amount of our thanks must go to Casey van den Heuvel, who once again demonstrated his vast leadership and organizational skills. His constant good humour and calm, charismatic demeanor were major contributors to the success of this year’s event and the past 20 years of Flea Market Parking.

Whether you directed traffic, coordinated parking, accepted payments, assisted with logistics, provided equipment, or stepped in wherever help was needed, your efforts ensured the event ran smoothly and safely. The long hours, the constant flow of vehicles, and the demands of the weekend were met with professionalism, patience, and good humour.

Your contribution directly supports the ongoing work of the 8th Hussars Military Museum and strengthens the ability of both our organizations to serve the community. We are profoundly grateful for your commitment and generosity.

Thank you for standing with us, for giving your time, and for helping make this fundraiser a resounding success. We are proud to work alongside such dedicated individuals and partners and look forward to repeating this at the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta in September.
