Sundre Museum and World of Wildlife

Sundre Museum and World of Wildlife The Sundre & District Museum is a place to learn, explore and create. We look forward to your visit. It is now one of three exhibit spaces.

Tour our pioneer village which sits on 4 acres of land and houses 8 heritage buildings. Wander around our reception gallery with ever changing displays and take a walk on the wild side in our World of Wildlife exhibit which displays over 170 animal mounts from around the world.

#1 The Pioneer Village was once the original Sundre museum. Open during the summer months, the village sits on four acre

s of land and houses eight historic buildings. There is an area dedicated to farm machinery and implements in the upper village next to the garden, and a tractor and wagon display located in the lower village next to the garage. The village offers a wonderful display of green spaces and gardens. Bring your lunch and enjoy a picnic in the park while your children play in our sandbox.

#2 The Reception Centre was built in 2011 as a means of improving the way the museum staff collected, displayed, and stored its objects. It is the front line admission gate and entrance to the rest of the exhibits. It houses a modest general store, public washrooms and a coffee area. The Gallery is open all year round and the displays are ever changing. We encourage you to follow our social media pages as we introduce new displays throughout the years.

#3 The newest exhibit in our collection is the World of Wildlife. This is a closed, taxidermy exhibit featuring a large floor to ceiling landscape mural, by a local artist. It showcases over 170 mounts from around the world, including a life-sized replica elephant built by our friends at Jurassic Park. Come touch and feel at our learning table, try our skill testing, "what is this" activity and enjoy the sounds of this unique, best of its kind in North America exhibit. We thank the Chester Mjolsness and his family for this donation as it has placed our museum on the international map.

Come explore our history! 💙

🏛️ Some stories are meant to be explored, not just remembered.

🌲 At the Sundre & District Pioneer Village Museum, history comes alive through original cabins, antique machinery, and stories that shaped the community—from pioneer settlement and Indigenous culture to forestry and life in the foothills.

🪵 From early homesteads to the Sundre we know today, the town’s connection to the land runs deep.

📍 Find it in Sundre’s Historic Riverside Area, adjacent to downtown.
