There’s something so perfect about the changing leaves right now and their joyful tumble on the warm breeze. Hot summer days give way to cool nights. Finally there is respite from the relentless heat. And if we’re lucky, a balmy, rainy morning will ease us out of summer. Virginia Woolf referred to Autumn as the season of the soul. After all, the fall is a time for gratitude and growth. It is a time to reflect and reset. A time for change and transition.

Pretty stoked to have won a Juror's Choice Award for my Wonder Woman Steampunk top hat from juror David McWilliams at the ArtPod's ABOUT TIME Exhibition.
Wonder Woman has remained a symbol of courage, justice, and empowerment for generations. Reimagining her through a Steampunk lens creates a bridge between the past and the future, celebrating how enduring heroes evolve while their values remain timeless.

Recently I have been chatting with my son about the negative environmental impact of using a.i.. And although I have never used a.i. to create or inform an artwork, I have definitely used art placement apps to show what my artwork would look like in various settings. And I have used a.i. to remove the background behind an artwork because it was easier than using a photo editing software.

All around me I see artists and photographers having to contend with a.i. generated art displacing our jobs. So, I have decided to stop using such programs and apps. This means photographs of my artwork will now be in situ in my studio or gallery.

This is a personal decision, only for myself.

You may not know this, but each artwork I create holds a little piece of my heart. This one especially, as it was a collaboration with my youngest son Mason Menzies. And I don't always know where my pieces go. So it is especially heartwarming to meet and know my collectors, and to know how much my art means to them. Knowing that something so personal has connected with someone else, and hearing what it means to them, is one of the most rewarding parts of being an artist.

To anyone who has collected one of my pieces, thank you. It means more than you know.

Thank you Sooke Fine Art Show for an amazing and supportive 40 years! I've been showing at this venue for over 20 years and this was the best show yet.
