Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre

Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre The GCHCC houses an art gallery, museum featuring natural history & local heritage, & tourist info.

The Grand Coteau Heritage & Cultural Centre houses an art gallery featuring touring art shows by local, regional, provincial and national artists. We also have a natural history room with several specimens and beautiful dioramas highlighting Southwest Saskatchewan's natural habitat and animals. The lower exhibit area features Shaunavon's heritage through display of artifacts and stories dating to

the beginning of the town in 1913. The Shaunavon Public Library is located in the same building where public internet access is available. We are the tourist information centre for the Town of Shaunavon.

Tomatoes Tried to Kill Me But Banjos Saved My Life isn’t just a show, it’s a cause. A heartfelt passion project that began as a nudge after Keith Alessi’s life took a major turn, it has been his mission to raise money for causes close to his heart.

Keith shares his exceptional true story of leaving the world of corporate board rooms behind to follow his long-delayed passion-playing the banjo! When faced with a deadly cancer battle, his musical pursuit took him on a journey that became the key to saving his life. Told through authentic storytelling, heartfelt humor and music, Keith’s story is an uplifting tale of challenge, triumph, and the healing power of the arts and music.

Many thanks to these Friends of the Community for their generous sponsorship of this special concert:
- Western Financial Group
- Stark & Marsh
- Standard Shaunavon
- Roderick Thienes
and to Shaunavon's Darkhorse Theatre for the use of their beautiful hall.

We have been blessed with the BEST summer students this year!! 😍

The summer has flown by, but as we head into the last week of their work term—and our exciting Art Camp week—now is the time to give them their official welcome and introductions! We’ve been so busy, but we couldn't let the season end without showcasing the amazing team behind the scenes.

Meet our 2026 summer crew:

My name is Kamilah & I am 16 years old. Before moving to Shaunavon in 2022, I lived in Redvers for most of my life. In my free time I like to dance, spend time with my cats, bake, & figure skate. A fun fact about me: I speak 3 languages – English, Spanish & French. My favourite quote: Whether you think you can, or think you can’t – you’re right. – Henry Ford

My name is Stephen & I am 17 years old. I recently graduated high school and will be going to Fine Arts Education at the University of Calgary. My hobbies include singing, playing the guitar, dancing, & painting. Fun facts about me: my favourite food is lasagna, and my favourite band is Cup of Joe.

My name is Lucille, and I’m 16 years old. I moved to Canada from the Philippines with my family in 2018 when I was just eight years old. In my free time, I enjoy baking, painting, shopping, and spoiling my cat. A fun fact about me is that I love reading. If find a really good book, I can easily finish it in a single day! My favourite quote is, “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” — Earl Nightingale

Many thanks to Canadian Museums Association / Association des musées canadiens for the funding support for our summer student positions through the Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations program.

Drop a comment below to thank Kamilah, Stephen, and Lucille for all their hard work at the Grand Coteau Centre this summer! ❤️👇
