SHIVERS AT THE SHIPS – A SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN ADVENTURE FOR LITTLE GHOSTS & GOBLINS!

Looking for some Halloween fun without the frights? Join us at the Marine Museum of Manitoba in Selkirk for Shivers at the Ships, a NON-SCARY, family-friendly Halloween adventure designed especially for little trick-or-treaters ages 1–10! 🎃

Climb aboard the Lady Canadian, one of the Museum's historic ships, which has been transformed into a Halloween wonderland! Little ghosts, goblins, princesses and pirates can explore the decorated ship and enjoy an evening filled with Halloween magic, giggles and fun!

Returning for another year, the Marine Museum of Manitoba in Selkirk transforms the museum into HALLOWEEN HAUNT, a terrifying harbour of horrors, where restless spirits lurk in the shadows, creepy characters await around every corner, and the S.S. Keenora comes alive with things that may make you Ship your Pants!

Step aboard the haunted S.S. Keenora and make your way through dark passageways, eerie rooms, and spine-chilling surprises. You never know what—or WHO—might be waiting for you around the next corner!

The Marine Museum of Manitoba in Selkirk is looking for enthusiastic volunteers ages 16 and up to help bring our Halloween events to life aboard our historic ships!

You don’t need acting or theatre experience — just a willingness to have some fun, get into character and help us create a memorable Halloween experience for our visitors!
Students are welcome, and volunteer hours can be provided.

⚓ All volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of TWO nights.

😱 HALLOWEEN HAUNT – SCARERS NEEDED!
📅 October 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 & 25
⏰ 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
We’re looking for volunteers to dress in costume, get into character and help create a frightening experience as visitors make their way through the Museum’s haunted ships. Whether you’re creepy, spooky, strange or downright terrifying, we have a place for you!
👻 Costumes are provided by the Marine Museum.
🔞 Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Playgreen Lake was a vital link in northern Manitoba’s transportation and supply network. Located just north of Lake Winnipeg, it is known for its shallow, rocky and often treacherous waters. These conditions made navigation difficult for larger, deep-hulled vessels such as the S.S. Keenora.

The lake’s challenging waters shaped the development of transportation through the region. Built in 1942, the M.S. Chickama II was specially designed with a flat-bottomed hull to navigate Playgreen Lake safely.

Passengers, freight and supplies travelled north from Selkirk across Lake Winnipeg aboard the S.S. Keenora to Warren’s Landing, at the entrance to Playgreen Lake. There, they were transferred to the Chickama II, which carried them through Playgreen Lake to Norway House and other northern communities.

With its difficult waters and strategic location, Playgreen Lake served as a crucial passage between Lake Winnipeg and Manitoba’s north.

When the sun goes down and the last visitors leave, the ships at the Marine Museum of Manitoba become very different. The passageways grow darker. The decks fall silent. Every creak sounds a little closer than it should. And sometimes… you get the uneasy feeling that you’re not alone.

Only three nights remain to experience Haunted Harbour Ghost Tours before they disappear for the season. Step aboard after dark and follow your guide deep into the museum’s historic vessels, where you’ll hear chilling stories of unexplained encounters, strange occurrences and the spirits said to linger within these old ships. You’ll make your way through shadowy corridors and rooms where more than a few visitors have wondered if something—or someone—was watching from the darkness.
