In October of 1992, Dr Allan MacKay, veterinarian was inducted into “The Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame”.
Doc Allan, as he was lovingly known in this area, grew up on a farm in neighbouring Heathbell, was educated at Heathbell School and Pictou Academy and graduated from NS Agricultural College in 1943, and from The Ontario Veterinary College in 1951. He had one of the first purebred Guernsey herds in Canada. Dr MacKay was a huge supporter of 4-H and his name is proudly on the 4-H barn at The Pictou North Colchester exhibition grounds in Pictou. If you visit our museum, you can learn much more about Dr Allan MacKay. We even have his veterinary instruments on display.
