Great news and a great honour to having our building the Schreiber Discovery Centre and Rail Museum recognized as "Queens Park Pick" by the Ontario Association of Architects. Thanks go out to MPP Lise Vaugeois for the nomination!

Please join me in congratulating the Schreiber Discovery Centre and Railway Museum on being chosen as a "Queen's Park Pick", by the Ontario Association of Architects!

If you haven't been to the Schreiber Discovery Centre yet, it's on the Trans-Canada highway as you come into Schreiber from the West. You will see a historic diesel engine, a railcar that's been converted into a museum space, and a central building that includes an immersive virtual reality experience. All of this is connected by a sculptural canopy.

Number Ten Architectural Group incorporated materials including wood and steel, telling the history of the town as a CP Rail town named after CP's Chief Engineer, Sir Collingwood Schreiber. It's a striking building on the outside and has so much to offer on the inside!

Community members provided input throughout the visioning process, with the goal of creating an attraction that would draw visitors off the highway to experience the town's history firsthand - and it's been doing that brilliantly since 2020!

I had the honour of nominating Schreiber's Discovery Centre and clearly the judges recognized that the building with its immersive experience is one of THE places to visit on the north shore. Special recognition goes to Ray Gionet who continues to be a driving force collecting and contributing so many of the elements of the museum.

The Schreiber Discovery Centre is a jewel not just of the North Shore but of the Province of Ontario.

It opens again June 1st so get yourselves over to Schreiber. There is something there for everyone!

This poster is tucked away in a corner in the Schreiber Discovery Centre and Rail Museum. This poster has a significant memory to me. This was the poster that was created with my vision of a rail museum backed by Don McArthur to locate it across the street from the voyageur. The poster was created to see if there was any interest in getting this vision going. The meeting hosts were Don and myself. It was held June 4th 1992 in the meeting room of the old Rec Centre Hall. Over 60 curious and supportive citizens showed up and listened to our presentation. After the meeting was completed a committee was formed to bring this dream to reality. One of the first things that was completed was creating a festival to fund the museum called Schreiber Heritage Days. This first festival happened in August of 1992 and was a weekend event. The event was so successful that we decided to do a 10 day event the following year. Fast forward to today. Schreiber Heritage Days remain as an important part of bringing our community together. Thanks to the work of so many people including volunteers, councillors, mayors, town staff including the hard work of our Economic Development Officers, Provincial and Federal Governments including many members of parliment, CPR and im sure I have missed many that were involved. This project is now a showcase to the world that has left so many visitors in aw and is now drawing people to our community to experience the life of a vibrant railroad community. This building represents our town and everyones efforts to bring a dream to reality thru the hard efforts of everyone. There is only one thing I can I say after looking at the poster. Thank you! Thank you everybody in believing and for all your hard work!

The Schreiber Discovery Centre and Rail Museum is pleased to introduce this years students that are greeting visitors at the front desk. Aaron Hamilton and Zoey Krause. It's a real pleasure to have them with us this year. What is really special is their grandfathers were both a huge part of the Schreiber Discovery Centre and Rail Museum Journey.
Bob Krause, Zoey Krause's grandfather was a former Schreiber Heritage and Tourism Committee member, councillor and Mayor. He was instrumental in aquiring land and our museum cars. He also worked tirelessly with us to construct our very first museum location.
David Hamilton was also a volunteer for the Schreiber Heritage Days Committee, councillor and Mayor. He was a tremendous supporter of our project and his barbecue skills earned him the title of the "Burger King" at our fundraising events. He was also instrumental in our new Discovery Centre.
To have the grandkids of these 2 champions is such an honour and Im sure the smiles from heaven from both of these great men are showering down on Aaron and Zoey. Congratulations to both of you!

Barbara O'Brien stopped by with some items for the museum. Here are two articles on the ETU's. Theses "end of train units" replaced the caboose. Kevin, Barbs husband was on the cross country tour demonstrating this new technology in 1985. Thanks for your donation Barb!

We were thrilled to welcome two additional bus tours from Viking Octantis to the Schreiber Discovery Centre today! 🛳️🌊 It's wonderful to see these cruise ships and greet their passengers in our Discovery Centre. The initiative by Superior Country to bring tourism to our communities and showcase our facilities to visitors from all around the world is commendable. We are pleased to say that for June 2025 we have had over 1100 visitors! Great start to the season!

Volunteers are a genuine gift to us all. Volunteers make things happen. At the Schreiber Discovery Centre and Rail Museum we value the efforts and time given by them. If it wasn't for volunteers our centre would not be able to open so early and close late in the tourist season. Here is a prime example of just one of our dedicated volunteers. Tom Quinton, a retired school teacher, is a shining example. Tom, who is 83, brings an amazing wealth of history to our building. Having studied history as a minor during his teaching career, Tom shares his extensive knowledge with all our visitors. It's a real pleasure to hear the stories. We invite you to drop in, say hello, and express your gratitude for his dedication. Our volunteers are truly something to be proud of.
