🌱 Upcoming Exhibition | a rush of friendship for stones and grasses
On view 6 June - 13 December

Bringing together works that study, reinterpret, and immerse us in the overlooked worlds that exist at ground level, this exhibition invites you to shift your perspective, slow down, and consider what lies just below your feet. In doing so, your daily commute, a patch of gravel, or a scattering of weeds on a sports field can become a site of unexpected wonder.

Works by Amanda Amour-Lynx, Robert Bourdeau, Jeff Burns, Alex Colville, Jerry Evans, Tom Forrestall, Violet A. Gillett, Dawn George, Jack Weldon Humphrey, Roel Jacobs, Garry Neill Kennedy, Dennis Oppenheim, Amelia Elizabeth Pickard, Mary Pratt, and Roberta Taylor

Curated by Rachel Thornton, Curator of Digital Engagement

👀 Opening TONIGHT | Erica Rutherford: Her Lives and Works

Take an intimate look at Erica Rutherford's (1923–2008) life and practice through a career spanning retrospective of her artworks, alongside personal photographs and memorabilia in this nationally touring exhibition.

PEI’s Erica Rutherford was a painter, writer, and performer whose work reflects a lifelong engagement with identity, gender, and belonging. Rutherford's experience of transitioning and living across the gender binary deeply informed her art.

On view at the Owens until 13 September

Curated by Pan Wendt, this exhibition is organized and circulated by Confederation Centre Art Gallery in collaboration with the National Gallery of Canada

🙏 This is a Caitlin appreciation post!

We'd like to extend an extensive thank you to our Curatorial Assistant Caitlin Gallant, who is just finishing up a year-long contract with the Owens this week.

Caitlin previously worked at the Owens as our Publications Archive and Distribution Assistant intern as a student, was one of our summer interns last summer, and stayed on to help the gallery with accessibility- related work, tons of event- related preparations, a wide range of clerical and administrative projects, proofreading plenty of publications and labels, hand-modeling many wonderfully random social media photos, and helping make major progress on the movement of artworks in the Library ahead of their upcoming construction projects.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work, enthusiasm, and careful attention to all the little details Caitlin!
