🟣 The Richmond Art Gallery Association (RAGA) is a non-profit, registered charitable society dedicated to supporting the Richmond Art Gallery. Board members provide support to RAGA and the gallery in their mission to promote dialogue among diverse communities and to challenge ideas and issues of today, as expressed through local, national, and international contemporary art.

🟣 RAGA helps grow visual art in Richmond and connects with the art community in BC and Canada. We offer programs for all ages to learn about contemporary art and to engage the community in art-making activities.

🟣 The Richmond Art Gallery is fortunate to have a talented Curatorial team and a skilled Director on staff who spearhead the gallery's artistic and curatorial vision. The Richmond Art Gallery Association does not act as the governing Board of the Richmond Art Gallery, nor does it have a curatorial role in the gallery’s exhibition program.

🟣 RAGA collaborates with the City-run Richmond Art Gallery. The Board acts as ambassadors for arts and culture and leads fundraising efforts.

We seek enthusiastic volunteer Board members to join our Board of Directors and help advance the arts and shape the Richmond Art Gallery’s future.

Last year, Caroline Monnet was featured in “Dear Plastic.” An artist of Anishinaabe and French descent, Monnet presented striking weavings crafted from construction materials. Her 2016 video work “Creatura Dada” was also a centrepiece of the 2023 RAG exhibition “Codes of Silence,” curated by Zoë Chan.

In the video, Monnet imagines a lavish feast overflowing with fresh fruit, seafood, and champagne. The work centers on the internationally renowned 90-year-old Abenaki filmmaker and activist Alanis Obomsawin, celebrated for her influential documentary films since the 1960s, including “Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance” (1993). Obomsawin is honoured by a group of Indigenous women artists—opulently dressed in rich colours—including Monnet herself, her sister Émilie Monnet, visual artist Nadia Myre, and others.

We asked August Klintberg (.klintberg) to tell us more about his large-scale work, “Lookbook”. He states, “…And the idea was that in making the work, I wanted to return to myself as a teenager. And what I remember imagining the good life would be like for myself, at my current age, now that I'm approaching 50…So kind of revisiting myself as an emerging q***r teenager and piecing together almost a wish list of what I think is going to be necessary for me to have a good life.”

Find out more fascinating clues about Klintberg’s vision of a future in “Lookbook” currently featured in “I digress.”
