🖤Meet Bear🖤

Creating all the colorful tones in Bears black fur was so much fun. My first all-black commission, and I loved every moment of it.

Here's what Bears family had to say about him. Hes clearly very loved.

Bear. A black domestic short hair. He came to us via SOS Prairie Rescue after being rescued from a cat hoarding situation in northern Saskatchewan. His Mom was one of 25 adult cats in an incredibly small home and she just had given birth to
a litter of 7. We drove to Saskatoon to see all the kittens and when we were sitting on the floor trying to decide, a tiny head poked out from under a chair and then bravely walked to my then 11 year old son and climbed onto his leg and sat down. Never moved again until we picked him up. I think it goes without saying that he picked us - and we are so glad he did.

Iv always wanted to draw a Main C**n cat. This commission was such a blessing to do, thank you for trusting me to capture them on paper.
I always like to honor each pet I draw with a personal write up, here is what their mom had to say......

My first Maine C**n was a lifelong dream of mine since adolescence, and after 50 years, I finally realized it. At night, they both attempt to snuggle on my lap, and there is no comparable experience to cuddling with two large cats, a blanket, and sitting in my oversized chair to alleviate my stress. They are the largest domestic cat breed and will engage in activities such as playing fetch, walking on a leash, and climbing to the highest point in my house, so they may look down on me from their kingdom. Commonly referred to as 'the gentle giant,' Maine C**ns are sociable and inquisitive, and can usually be found wherever the action is in the house, inserting themselves into every interesting situation. These two have stolen my heart and filled my life with love.

Sweet Kia has been her family’s heart for so many years. The heart aches we feel as our special pets get older and slow down, sometimes leaves us without words.
I felt so honored to capture her gentle spirit on paper — you can just see the love and happiness in her eyes, proving she has wonderful life. Sending love and comfort to her family as they treasure every moment they have left with their sweet Kia.

Because this is a pet-inspired page, I thought I’d share the newest little addition to our family. 💕
This sweet boy was found in a field by my mom and her dog, Betsy—alone, cold, and far too young to be on his own. He was already starting to slip toward hypothermia, but with regular feedings of kitten milk and lots of love, he’s been thriving.
We’re completely smitten already.

Behind every piece of art is a life full of love.
This is Jovi, whos crossed the rainbow bridge.
His family wrote a little about him, and I couldn’t imagine a better way to introduce this portrait than with their words...

Our sweet Jovi was our first baby, the one who made us a family of three. He was unwaveringly loyal, spirited, and cuddly especially during my pregnancies, always knowing just when I needed him close. His favorite person was his dad, though he loved us all with his whole heart. Jovi was happiest perched on his bench guarding the front door or running around outside at the lake, always finding something gross to eat or roll in. More like a little human than a dog, he filled our lives with love and joy and we will love him endlessly.

"Our family was blessed to spend 14 wonderful years with Miley, whose spirit was truly one of a kind. She loved being warm, often lying in the most unexpected place to soak up the sun, burying under a blanket, and never missed a chance to steal your heat pad. Miley loved to cuddle, play tug of war, and would patiently let her human sister dress her up. Though her paws no longer patter through the house, her presence lives on forever in our memories and hearts"

Today was a hard day. I took my sweet cat to the vet after noticing she wasn’t herself, and we got the heartbreaking news that she has FIP. Her type is untreatable, so we’ve chosen to bring her home, love her, and keep her comfortable for however much time she has left—whether that’s weeks or months.

Moments like this remind me why I started drawing pet portraits in the first place. My very first portrait was of my mom’s dog after she passed, and it showed me how much comfort art can bring in times of grief. Our pets are family, they leave pawprints on our hearts, and when they’re gone, we cling to the memories that keep them close.

Now, as I begin the journey of giving my own cat hospice care, I feel even more deeply how meaningful it is to capture their spirit on paper. Every portrait I create is more than just fur and eyes—it’s a legacy of love, a reminder of the bond we’re so lucky to share.
