Bree Tabin’s exhibition, tomboy engages with themes of nostalgia, grief, and gender identity (gender q***rness). Working in sculptural, printmaking, and installation works, tomboy opens up an untapped nostalgia sealed by the growing pains of lost play and the gradual process of losing early memories.

Bree Tabin (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist entering the emergent space living on Treaty 4 territory. Working in arts and culture spaces throughout Regina SK, they lead both their creative practice and arts professional work with curiosity and in pursuit of expanding relationships. Maintaining parrhesia and q***r identity in their work, Bree creates for expression of duality, community, continual play and connection — making work with bold messaging in rejection of subtlety.

Please join us on March 13th from 5-7 PM, with brief remarks at 5:30, for the opening reception of tomboy at the Fifth Parallel Gallery. In addition to the opening, artist Bree Tabin will also host two exhibition tours on March 13th at 1:15 PM, and March 22nd at 1 PM where they will provide more insight and background on their work. Tabin would like to extend their formal appreciation to the University of Regina Q***r Initiative (URQI) program for providing funding for this exhibition.

Coming soon in the Fifth Parallel Gallery is a special print exhibition “Bite and Burnish” curated by Ciara Trapp and Jayden Thompson

Copper intaglio techniques are a small part of what makes up the world of printmaking, yet they embody an understated complexity. With methods such as soft ground, hard ground, drypoint, sugar lift, aquatint, and photo-etching, printmakers hold inexhaustible opportunities to combine and layer techniques to achieve unique compositions. Bite & Burnish offers viewers a glimpse into the possibilities of copper intaglio by showcasing the work of 11 artists alongside their etched copper plates. Presenting both print and matrix highlights the relationship between image and source, emphasizing the creative and expressive possibilities of intaglio printmaking. Curated by Ciara Trapp and Jayden Thompson, Bite & Burnish runs at the Fifth Parallel Gallery from February 9th to 27th with a public reception on February 13th from 5:00 to 7:30 pm.

Coming to the Fifth Parallel January 14th-30th is a new group painting exhibition, “Figure in Layers,” curated by Zoë Anthony, Morgan Crane, and Hannah Shanks.

“ “Figure in Layers” is a collection of human form paintings created by a group of students from Fall 2025’s ART 343 class. The range of works include skeleton paintings to personal portraits. The paintings showcase creativity through the choices of composition, colour, cropping, taking creative liberties when it comes to invented background, as well as showing depth of character and personality through portraiture. Each student is able to show their unique style through each of their paintings. “
-Morgan Crane

Remember to mark the closing reception, Wednesday, January 28 at 5-7 PM, in your calendars! Don’t miss it!
