Coming soon to our Window Gallery!

Grace Boyd’s ‘Pile of Dirt’

Pile of Dirt is a gathering of vessels made in celebration of “being here”. The here may change, the place may not always be the same but there is always dirt beneath our feet, in our bones and bodies. These vessels show each and every finger mark it took to make them, not just as a marker of labor but as a memory of the body-to-body connection of maker and material. Boyd’s greater body of works is made in her relentless pursuit to connect person, place, and object and further redefine what those terms may mean in relation to her work.

Call for membership proposals is now open!

DEADLINE: May 1, 2026

The residency is designed as a resource for artists and makers in the Neutral Ground’s membership to connect to artist-run culture in the prairies and have access to space and infrastructure to experiment, brainstorm, and develop new or continuing projects and ideas in their practice. For nine weeks, Neutral Ground will welcome two artists from our membership, transforming the main gallery to a work/studio space for selected artists. Selected artists are not expected to produce final works during this time, and the nature of this residency will largely be led by their own needs and preferences for the time and space.

For more information and submit your application please check our website!

Join us on March 7th for Jera MacPherson’s durational performance Bitter Fruits. Performance will be approximately two hours in duration, viewers are welcome drop in and out between the hours of 2-4pm.

Bitter Fruits is a performance which, similar to other works by Jera MacPherson, explores structures of
power and feminist themes of labour, purity culture, and coming-of-age within the LDS worldview. The
phrase bitter fruit appears in the Mormon lexicon in a few interlaced ways: Instances when church leaders
have referenced fatherless children as the negative consequences (ie. bitter fruits) of unmarried single
mothers; Eve of course, eating the forbidden fruit, and being cast from the garden for tasting the
bitterness of good and also evil; And finally a warning from a church lesson manual to not criticise the
leadership of the church and perform your duties to avoid suffering (“Beware the bitter fruit of apostasy.”)
that would come from defecting. Within the artist’s personal vernacular as an ex-mormon, “bitter fruits” is
a shorthand acknowledgment of breaking generational religious cycles and the joys and grief that
accompany thinking for yourself.

Oh, It’s a Book! (Eventually)| A Bookbinding Workshop | February 28 | 1-4pm | Instructed by Yvonne Niegas

Purchase your registration on our website and join us on Feb 28th from 1-4pm!

This hands-on bookbinding workshop introduces participants to the basics of binding loose papers into a simple, finished booklet. Together, we’ll explore three fundamental loop stitches, learning how each one works and when it’s useful. Participants will practice stitching techniques step by step, gaining a feel for tools, paper, and thread while creating their own bound piece. No prior experience is needed—this workshop is designed as an accessible introduction to bookbinding, focused on learning through making and leaving with a handmade
book.

Yvonne Niegas is an emerging multidisciplinary artist based in Regina, Saskatchewan, who primarily works in printmaking. Their practice explores materials and processes through experimentation with unconventional approaches, pushing boundaries to shape bold and evolving visual narratives.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Yvonne’s work is rooted in the intricacies of human experience and connection that have shaped their life, using these connections to explore and engage with the emotional resonance of events. Their work navigates themes of identity, belonging, and uncertainty through visual narratives. At the core of their practice is exploring interpersonal connection, by capturing moments of vulnerability, humanity, and quiet intimacy.
