It's our first Monarch Butterfly sighting of the year! Photos were taken in the Native Prairie Plant Garden by the Museum entrance yesterday. Despite a chilly start to spring, our first Monarch sighting of 2026 is earlier than most years we've been tracking Monarchs in the garden. We've submitted our sighting to journeynorth.org and hope that you do the same if you spot a Monarch in your travels.

From Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, meet actor, writer, choreographer, and director Michael Greyeyes on Tuesday, June 9 in our summer edition of SGI Solstice Speaker Series.

Find out how the power of language and the words we use to describe our future can serve as medicine to remake the world around us. Michael's discussion, “We Will Write Our Way Out of This”, will highlight how creativity can heal in a time where reliance or deference to Artificial Intelligence is taking place. Throughout the evening, Michael will use his experience in contemporary film and television to display Indigenous leadership, cultural knowledge, and responsibility to the future.

We are all about Saskatchewan fossils so ask us about the Calf Creek Brontothere, affectionately named "Emily," as we prepare it in the Paleo Lab Experience over the summer. Visit and watch this brontothere fossil emerge from its jacket. ⚒️Collected in 1996 by Royal Saskatchewan Museum staff, Brontotheres are specialized plant eaters that lived in Saskatchewan about 37 million years ago. https://royalsaskmuseum.ca/trex The T.rex Discovery Centre is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. including holidays.

Don't be fooled by the name. This is a clutch of eggs of the Tennessee Warbler (Leiothlypis peregrina). The Tennessee Warbler was named while it was observed In Tennessee during migration -- but it doesn’t breed at all in Tennessee. This warbler breeds in the boreal forest in the summer, including Saskatchewan's.

Want to see a variety of eggs that can be found in Canada? We have 406 catalogued in our https://birdeggsofcanada.ca/ database, just 26 photos shy of all the regularly breeding birds in Canada.

About the size of chocolate mini eggs, these are Cape May Warbler eggs. Cape May Warblers regularly lay an average of 6 eggs, which is a large number compared to other warblers. It is thought that laying a large number of eggs may allow them to take advantage when there is an outbreak of their preferred food source, spruce budworms.
