Down to Earth Clayworks Pottery ..... the alchemy of mud, earth, water & fire

Down to Earth Clayworks is a home-based pottery studio and retail showroom, located in the Lang Creek area, south of the town of Powell River. Potter, Brenda Neall, uses a variety of medium fire, stoneware clays for her pots and also makes her own glazes. Most of the wares are wheel-thrown with a focus on functional pottery that can be used in all areas of the home. Brenda also uses hand-building

and mold-making techniques, including the ongoing development of a line of tiles, inspired by the nearby ocean, seashore and forests.

And that's a wrap! Shann, Leah, James and I had a such a great time meeting and sharing our work with the wonderful folks of Powell River/qathet RD, along with their friends and other visitors to the area. Thank you to all of you who dropped by. We also send a big thanks to the people behind the scene at qathetART, who work hard to make this event happen 👏🏻👏🏻

I was most excited to be back at work making pots in preparation for this weekend and I will be striving to carry forward with my studio work as I am looking forward to hosting an Christmas Sale here at the Down to Earth Clayworks Gallery ... stay tuned for sale dates.

Such a fun and exciting day at location #22 on the qathet Studio Tour. Thanks to all that came by today. We’re looking forward to meeting the Sunday touring crowd tomorrow.

Are you qathet Studio Tour ready? The tour encompasses locations from Lund to Stillwater, with 24 artist studios and/or artist collectives. We are location #22 and the four of us are excited 🥳 ... we hope to see you between 10 AM - 4 PM, Sat or Sun.

Well that was disappointing 😏 … this kiln load was primarily pots done in my old 2 colour glaze combos … the secondary colour being the one commercial glaze I use. As I said in a previous post, it is a bit finicky … and it didn’t ‘disappoint’ in that regard 🥴. I suspected it might be too thin and it was … and consequently, it turned out a kinda muddy brown and very thin and rough on pot edges. I will attempt to reapply more glaze and re-fire … after the tour - but I’ll leave them out in the kiln room for display only.

There will be lots of other great pottery and woodworks available, so come on out this Sat or Sun … we are so looking forward to seeing everyone for the qathet Studio Tour
