Today is international Make Your Dreams Come True Day.

I think it is fair to say that restoring Prescott House was a dream come to true for Mary. She once remarked that it cost her entire life savings but she didn't regret it for a minute. Planning on visiting the Annapolis Valley this summer? Make sure to stop by Prescott House Museum and see this beautiful house in person.

Prescott House Museum— An Inspiration for Local Writers

Looking for a great book to read? Why not try one of these books?

Prescott House Museum in Starr’s Point, in the Fundy Bay and Annapolis Valley region of Nova Scotia has inspired three very talented local authors in their writing, Christy Ann Conlin, Donna Alward and Michelle Helliwell! The Museum and its grounds provided inspiration for the houses/manors in each of their books or book series. Each novel is from a different genre; fiction, contemporary romance, and historical romance. Built between 1812 and 1816, Prescott House Museum is one of the best-preserved Georgian houses in Canada. It was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1969, and is now operated as part of the Nova Scotia Museum System.

In Christy Ann Conlin’s novel, The Memento, she has drawn inspiration from both Prescott House and its gardens and woven it into her story. The Memento tells the story of Fancy Mosher as she lives and works in the servants' quarters at Petal's End, a former grand manor surrounded by dense forest belonging to the famed Parker family. Since the Great War, the estate has been slowly crumbling at the same rate as the family's reputation.

Donna Alward wrote The House on Blackberry Hill, the first book in her Jewell Cove series and used Prescott House as inspiration for that house. Abby Foster arrives in Jewell Cove to take possession of the family mansion she’s inherited from a relative she never knew existed. Her plans are to refurbish it, put it on the market, and head back to Nova Scotia. But the house—and the secrets within it—catch her in its spell.

Michelle Helliwell is also using Prescott House as inspiration in her historical romance, Scandalous Spinsters series set right here in Nova Scotia. Prescott House provides the blueprint for Everwell Manor, a school for girls. It’s a temporary haven for women who require escape from dangerous situations and is the home of the teachers and caretakers of Everwell, aka, the Scandalous Spinsters. Michelle has taken Prescott House and using her creative license, moved it to the South End of Halifax. Michelle Helliwell also mentions the “Kissing Tree” found in the lush gardens of Everwell manor in her first book of the series. The Kissing Tree can be found at Prescott House Museum. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at Prescott House Museum.

During WWII, Mr. David Sutton of Port Williams took in 60 sailors to stay among the homes on Christmas Eve. This photo are of the sailors that stayed with Mary and her sisters over the Christmas holidays.

This history is also documented in the book: "The Port Remembers"

May you all have a peaceful and happy holiday season.

The library is just the kind of room you could spend a rainy afternoon snuggled in front of the fire with a cup of tea, a good book, and perhaps a cat on your lap (or if you’re a dog lover, a dog curled on the rug in front of the fire). The books on the desk belonged to Charles Prescott and all have his signature in them.

The garden at Prescott House Museum is settling in for its winter sleep. Resting now, but already dreaming of spring days when it will wake up and welcome visitors.

A little throwback photo from our archives.

This black and white picture was taken in the 1930s. It is a view from the guest bedroom here at Prescott House Museum. In the foreground you can see the curved driveway shadowed by trees as well as Mary Allison Prescott's rose garden. In the middle ground, Mary Allison stands in her garden. In the background you can see the rolling hills of farmland.

This little stuffed doggie is on display in the nursey during our season.

This little stuffed toy belonged to Warrant Officer Class II Grant Graves of Port Williams in the 1920s. A favourite toy that he "always had to take to bed with him when he was very young."

Sadly, Warrant Officer Class II Graves, died in Suffolk, England in 1942 during WWII. May he rest in peace.

Happy Halloween Everyone! These photos were from yesterday -- there was fog over the river and in the pasture behind the house. The leaves have changed and fallen. After today I wonder how many leaves will be left! It's the very end of the season, Richard and I (Margrete) are finished our season today, but not to worry, we'll be back in the spring! 👻🎃
