On July 3rd, we will be hosting Sal and his pals C.A. & Sonny during their Album Release Tour!

Sal is a Pakistani-Canadian musician based in Ottawa, known for blending contemporary sounds with the deep roots of traditional folk, pushing the genre into a new era. His music is marked by rich storytelling and poignant lyrics that draw from personal experience and sharp observations of life’s complexities, with whimsy running as a subtle thread that weaves lightness into moments of melancholy.

C.A. & Sonny are an Ottawa-based duo focused on preserving the tradition of Folk music. Using a variety of stringed instruments, C.A. & Sonny sing songs, crack jokes, and tell tales of yesteryear. Their musicality is balanced expertly with their laid back performance, showcasing an enormous repertoire of antiquated melodies and stories, as well as some songs of their own.

Come out and help us support live independent music from awesome artists! Tickets are $15 each! Tickets can be purchased at the door or online. You can purchase tickets by visiting zeffy.com/en-CA/ticketing/sal-with-ca-and-sonny-album-release-show

Meet Lu Sakhno, one of our Artists in Residence for June!

Here's some info about Lu:

"I was born in 1971 in Kyiv, Ukraine, and graduated from the National Academy of Arts and Architecture. Initially, I worked as a designer, but in 2014, I focused solely on painting. I had a successful career in Ukraine, with numerous solo and group exhibitions in Ukraine and Europe. I participated in a significant project with Ukrainian artists within the framework of the Venice Biennale 2022-2023.

Unfortunately, I had to leave my homeland due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Since June 2022, I have lived in St. John’s, Canada.

Each of my works has a philosophical and symbolic subtext. I am most interested in human sensuality, symbolism, surreal metamorphoses and transformations. I often depict figurative compositions, for example, women in combination with geometric shapes. My first painting that I painted after arriving in Canada was called “House”, 2022, which depicts a woman with snails against the background of a burning house. This is my story, the story of Ukrainian women fleeing the war."

We can't wait to see what Lu creates during her time here in Port Union!
