Sounds Like: Port Hope is a collaboration between Critical Mass and the Capitol Theatre, inviting local seniors (55+) to connect with one another, share stories about their relationship with our town, and present those stories in a variety of ways.
The project’s objective is to build social connections and to preserve and share stories that celebrate this community and build a sense of pride and identity.
In the first phase of the project, participants engaged in artist-led interviews, conceived and led by artist Lee Higginson, to share their stories that will be digitized and enjoyed now and in the future.
In the second phase of the project, Capitol Theatre's Artistic Director Rob Kempson led theatre-based story-building workshops, that culminated in a collective performance.
The final phase of the phase aims to share some of the oral histories and images collected through interviews, and to engage participants to engage with and to share their own stories.
It is the aim of this project that stories will be heard, shared and celebrated, and that new friendships are forged.
