Located on James Bartleman Island Park in Port Carling, (beside the locks) the Muskoka Lakes Museum is open Victoria Day weekend to Canadian Thanksgiving, to educate its visitors on the history of the area and share stories of the past.

🍂 We are closed for the 2026 season.

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who visited, supported, and helped make this year so special! We truly appreciate our wonderful museum community and look forward to welcoming you back in 2027. We will reopen on Saturday, May 22.

In the meantime, starting on November 1st keep an eye on our website and social media for our online exhibits.💻

📬 And looking ahead to next season, we’re excited to open our latest temporary exhibit about the historic post offices of Muskoka Lakes. Fun fact: there were over 60! We can’t wait to tell their stories.

Our Fall Open House is happening Saturday, October 10 from 10 AM to 4 PM!

Come enjoy some warm apple c***r, cozy treats and lots of fall fun for the whole family. We’ll have a fall bingo scavenger hunt, Find the Pumpkins, festive crafts, a leaf exchange, and more! 🎃🍁

To mark the spooky season we’ve compiled a series of odd or strange pictures from our collection. In our experience, Halloween was much scarier when the costumes were homemade. Often we’ll be looking through our collection and stumble upon a jumpscare; here’s just a few!

Today, we remember the children who never came home, honour Survivors, and recognize the lasting impact of residential schools on Indigenous families and communities.

There is still much to learn, and listening is an important part of reconciliation. We encourage everyone to take some time today to listen, learn, and reflect.
