This isn’t the end of Lakeline. It’s the end of the first chapter.
When I stepped into the art world and opened Lakeline, I knew I wanted to create something different, a place where emerging artists, established artists, local talent and work from outside the Okanagan could all exist under one roof.
What I didn’t realize was how big of a learning curve this world would be. Over the last several months I’ve learned a lot about the business, the artists, the community, what works, what doesn’t, and most importantly, what Lakeline needs in order to become what I originally pictured.
I want to thank every artist who trusted Lakeline with their work, everyone who came through the doors, bought a piece, shared a post, attended an event or supported the gallery in any way. You all helped build the first version of this.
The current location gave us our start, but it was never the ideal long-term home. Lakeline is now closed until further notice while we search for the right downtown location , somewhere with large street-facing windows, more space, better visibility and the ability to create a true destination for art.
The goal for the next Lakeline is bigger: a gallery where people can walk in and discover incredible local, national and international artists, while still giving emerging talent a real opportunity to be seen.
About one month before our official grand opening, we will begin accepting artist applications for the new gallery. The next space will be carefully curated and built with everything we learned from this first chapter.
Sometimes you have to build something once to understand how you want to build it properly.
