The Provincial Archives of Alberta is visiting the Peace River region to showcase what they are doing to preserve Francophone community history! Come chat and share some refreshments with the archivists for these two free events in French:

On Sunday, October 4, 2026 there is the Sisters in Spirit Walk & Memorial Service in Peace River, hosted by the Peace River Aboriginal Interagency Committee (PRAIC).
People will gather to honour and remember the Missing and Murdered Indigenous sisters, brothers and loved ones from our communities, stand alongside impacted families, and continue calling for justice and action.

In front of the Peace River Museum, 10302–99 Street
❤️ 1:00 PM – Walk
Across the Heart River Bridge to Riverfront Park
At Riverfront Park, there will be an outdoor memorial service with testimony from impacted families, a Sacred Fire and to***co offering, followed by stew and bannock. Hand drummers are welcome to bring their drums.
Everyone is welcome. Please wear red in honour of those who are missing and those whose lives have been taken. You can also show your support by displaying a red dress at your home or workplace.

We are happy to announce our Great Horned Owl now has a name! HORNSBY has joined our other animals in the Sir Alexander Mackenzie Gallery. Those who stopped by the Museum in August and September had the opportunity to put a name in our suggestion box and one of those was selected!

Today, September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation also known as Orange Shirt Day. This is a day of remembrance to honour students of the Residential School system, and to recognize the profound impact that this system has left on the estimated 150,000 students and their families.
This day was inspired by Phyllis Wedstad, a Residential School survivor who, on her first day at the St. Joseph Mission, was stripped of an orange shirt that her grandmother so lovingly gave her to start her first day at a new school.
Orange Shirt Day creates an opportunity for meaningful discussion and education surrounding the legacy of Residential Schools and opens a door for genuine reconciliation.

The Peace River Aboriginal Interagency Committee, in partnership with the Sagitawa Friendship Society, invites everyone to gather in honour of Residential School Survivors, their families and the children who never returned home.

🪶 3:00 p.m. — Opening Prayer and Eagle Feather Presentation to Residential School Survivors
🎨 4:00–8:00 p.m. — Cultural workshops and activities

🎤 6:00–8:00 p.m. — Karaoke Singing and Jigging Contests

Activities will include Métis-inspired dot art, children’s activities, Bannock on a Stick and more.

the Royal Canadian Air Force Band of Tactical Air Command, from Edmonton, will be in the Peace Country for a series of concerts. As well, Fire Prevention Week will start next week with a variety of exhibitions and inspections planned by Fire Department.

to 65 years ago and the arrival of the 12 Foot Davis statue, August 1961. The statue was carved by Kaj Neilsen in Victoria, B.C., and once finished he drove it to Peace River on the back of a trailer. The statue resided on the north bank of the Heart River, just west of the Heart River bridge, until 1996 when it was refurbished and moved to Riverfront Park where it has been since.
