Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

We enjoy sharing highlights from interesting occasions with you.

Although we are closed until June 2027, we’re thrilled that valuable railway-themed donations continue to arrive at our Museum.
One recent treasure is an enlarged, professionally-produced photograph donated by Travis and Lori Runstedler. Exquisitely framed and in perfect condition, it features the roundhouse crew, circa 1925.
Unfortunately, glare and brilliance make the photograph difficult to capture clearly for Facebook.

Within days of the donation, a Museum visitor, while studying the photograph in our Telegraph Room, was surprised and very pleased to spot his grandfather among the roundhouse crew. Needless to say, we were thrilled as well.

Attached is a photograph of an information board on display in our ladies’ waiting room, featuring the same photograph. (Incidentally, there was one female employee working in the roundhouse, Nell Hamilton.)

NOTICE: Our seasonal Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum building is now CLOSED until early June 2027.
For a limited time only, prior to the onset of poor weather and driving conditions, Mutually-Convenient Times For Museum Tours, co-ordinated with volunteers, can be arranged by calling the municipal government office in Harriston, Monday to Friday (519) 338-2511.

F.Y.I. Indefinitely, visitors may stroll around our rolling stock beside the Museum, and our CN. Mogul #81 on Main Street. For a few further weeks only, the pedestrian bridge will be open for exploration. (For safety reasons, it is always closed for late Fall, Winter, and early Spring.)

One Facebook post cannot adequately thank everyone who has supported us during our 2026 season

🚂 We are deeply grateful to everyone who visited our Museum during our 2026 season. Your kind words, varied backgrounds, and the distances many of you travelled, meant so much to us.
🚂 We also thank everyone who donated funds or artifacts to our Museum. Your generosity has supported the restoration of our rolling stock and helped build a rich historical collection for future generations.
🚂 We appreciate our Facebook followers, especially retired railway staff and restoration experts, who offered valuable advice, and everyone who shared our posts and promoted our upcoming events.
🚂 Thank you to the companies and organizations which supported us with products, labour, and expertise. Your support has been outstanding!
🚂 We hope to once again interact with all of you in June, July, and August 2027.

To the Absolute Heart and Soul of our Museum... ❤️🏛️

Behind each Museum greeter welcoming our visitors and providing tours, every volunteer driving our mini-81 train or supervising handcar rides, each assistant in the restoration of our rolling stock, and each person providing hands-on work, assisting with displays and events, and so on, there is a Manager of Economic Development for the Town of Minto and an incredible special team of volunteers working magic behind the scenes.

Regarding volunteers, we wish to post a big heartfelt thank you to you. If we tried to tag or name every single one of you, we would inevitably run out of space (or accidentally miss someone, and we could never forgive ourselves for that!).

Please know that whether you give us hours every week or support us during our busiest events, or assist on a call-in basis, your time, passion, and energy are noticed and are very important. You don't just help keep our Museum’s doors open -- you bring our history and community to life.
We are very grateful to you. Thank you!

🍂 Capture Fall at the Museum!

The leaves are changing, and the Palmerston Railway Museum is looking its best! Grab your camera and capture the colours, scenery, and historic details around the museum.

From the railway tracks to the caboose, Cook Car, and pedestrian bridge, we want to see your favourite fall views!

📸 You can submit as many photos as you’d like throughout the competition, which runs until April 30.

📧 Send your photos to [email protected] and include your name and phone number with your submission.

🏆 A winner will be announced in May and will receive a prize valued at $150!

Look What Arrived in Our Museum’s Mailbag Today!

We are enthralled with this stunning new donation, which has arrived unexpectedly through the mail. Our beloved Museum and a crossbuck sign with lights, depicted on luxurious, heavyweight cotton paper with feathery deckled edges, is outstanding. Pure perfection.

This lovely artwork is so valuable to us and will be treasured!

Huge kudos to the artist for such incredible work! ✨

Although we may never know for certain, we believe the artist may have been one of the 23 participants in the special En Plein Air event on August 29. Regardless, this is a lovely memento.

The envelope includes a name and address, but we do not have permission to share them. We hope the artist sees this Facebook post, but we shall also mail a special thank-you card of appreciation this week.

Hello Everyone, It’s very bittersweet to take part in the final hour as our fabulous 2026 summer season comes to a close.

Winter weather and challenging driving conditions are approaching. Our Handcars and Mini-Train have already been stored until June 2027, and our Pedestrian Bridge is slated to be closed until Spring.

For a limited time, volunteer-coordinated tours of the Museum can be arranged on mutually-convenient dates and times by calling the Municipal Government Office in Harriston at (519) 338-2511, Monday to Friday.
