In 2025, CUAG opened CUAG Centretown at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers. The first artist, Yomi Orimoloye (Yomi), created “The Third Door,” a digitally-designed mural that extends the threshold space outside the Main Hall with a garden-like landscape.

“The Third Door” was at CUAG Centretown from May 27, 2025 - April 30, 2026.

Annual mural installations are made possible with generous support from BMO. Our partnership represents a shared commitment to creating opportunities for artists in Ottawa-Gatineau that contribute to a vibrant art and performance space experienced by more than 40,000 people throughout the year.

We’ve got a perfect meet-up spot on campus!

How do I get to CUAG? Follow the path of the groundhog and the raven, with special guest appearance by commercial signage from “Joi T. Arcand: ᑳᐃᓯᓈᑿᐦᑭ ᐃᑘᐏᓇ kā-isinākwahki itwēwina: The Shape of Words”

The gallery’s bottom floor is transformed into a ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐍᐏᐣ / nēhiyawēwin (Plains Cree) urban utopia until December 13, 2026.

The path to the gallery includes two Carleton University buildings that have been renamed alongside community members; Teraanga Commons (a Senegalese word from the Wolof language that means sharedness, civility and honour) and Nideyinàn, meaning “our heart” in Anishininaabemowin.

The steps to transformation are unfolding, but you can enter an Indigenous utopia today.

Faisa Omer: Threading Roots // Threading Roots considers how identity is continually made and remade through cultural practice, family histories and acts of remembrance.

Joi T. Arcand: ᑳᐃᓯᓈᑿᐦᑭ ᐃᑘᐏᓇ kā-isinākwahki itwēwina: The Shape of Words // Arcand reclaims nēhiyawēwin, a language she has been learning her whole life, and asserts its intellectual, aesthetic and cultural sovereignty and manifests its power to shape worlds.

✨Words are taking shape…✨

ᒐᐦᑭᐯᐦᐃᑲᓇ / cahkipēhikana / Cree syllabics hold cultural knowledge and are central to the artist Joi T. Arcand’s creation of a nêhiyaw (Cree) urban utopia at CUAG this fall.

Joi has been working at learning nēhiyawēwin her whole life and has spent much of her career asserting its value, sovereignty and power to shape worlds. Instead of offering a translation, her work asks: Who has access to the knowledge carried within language?

Step into “Joi T. Arcand: ᑳᐃᓯᓈᑿᐦᑭ ᐃᑘᐏᓇ kā-isinākwahki itwēwina: The Shape of Words” starting September 29 and mark your calendar for the opening party at 2pm October 4. 🔗in bio

☁️Creation of a Cloud☁️

As part of the collaborative art installation at the Ottawa Trans Library, evalyn shields and androgynousmuppet have created a cloud-like structure that will hold all the stained glass and crystal creations made during Camp Crystal.

Don’t forget to join the celebration and see the installation in the front window of the OTL!

The artist facilitators were a huge part of the success of Camp Crystal: they shared their knowledge and skillsets with the trans and q***r artist participants and together created unique stained glass and ceramic artworks.
