NBMHM - MHMNB

NBMHM - MHMNB The Museum, formerly known as the Canadian Forces Base Gagetown Military Museum, applied for and received official DND Museum status on April 19, 1973.

The NB Military History Museum preserves and displays the military history of NB and its people.
----
The Museum continued to develop and grow, expanding its exhibits, programs and activities to display, present and interpret the military history of the Canadian Army

, the Royal Canadian Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force, 1800 to 1968, and the Canadian Armed Forces from 1968 to today. In February 2010, the name was changed to the New Brunswick Military History Museum (NBMHM) and the mandate was changed to expand the timeline to pre-1800 and to put more emphasis on New Brunswick.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you're on a tour of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic with the NBMHM - MHMNB during the Organization of Military Museums of Canada annual museum training course and you get access to the collections vault where artefacts belonging to unidentified victims of the Titanic are stored. Simple objects that tell a powerful story.

In November 1776, in the early days of the American Revolution, a group of about 180 men sympathetic to the cause of the rebellious American colonies attacked Fort Cumberland. (Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site, Aulac, New Brunswick) The group, largely gathered from within the boundaries of what was then Nova Scotia, hoped to instigate a rebellion that would bring Nova Scotia into the Revolution - the 14th colony. Following unsuccessful attempts to take the fort, the conflict turned into a month-long siege, successfully defended by the small garrison and eventually lifted with the arrival of British troop reinforcements from Halifax.

We don't think the 250th anniversary of this pivotal event in our history should pass by un-noticed. Exciting news to follow (very soon)...
