Did you know the North Shore is home to many iconic filming locations? Take, for example, the corner of 1st and Chesterfield Avenue. Originally, the location was home to a residential property before eventually being converted into a restaurant in the 70s through the 90s - now immortalized by a film shot in the region. Curious which movie? Find out by reading this week's edition of Time Travellers in the North Shore News.

Carol, our team member in charge of Guest Services, wanted to take this opportunity to give some love to Raven and Hummingbird Tea Co, proudly stocked in MONOVA's Gift Shop.

As the weather heats up, their Love Me Tea, made with rose hips, hibiscus, and hawthorne berries, makes the perfect refreshing iced beverage. And we're not just saying it: Raven and Hummingbird Tea Co. is owned and operated by a mother-daughter team of ethnobotanists, drawing on their expertise and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh heritage to craft their teas with intention.

Raven and Hummingbird Tea Co. products are available at our Gift Shop for $12 a pack. Annual passholders receive 10% off all purchases, making this an even more irresistible option.

No one knows the books in MONOVA's gift shop quite like our staff, making them the perfect folks to recommend an option for your next month's read.

In recognition of , our guest services team member, Kenny, would like to recommend the Diary of Dukesang Wong: A Voice from Gold Mountain.

The Diary of Dukesang Won is the only known written account of a Chinese Canadian who worked on the CPR Railway in the 1860s and 1870s. The Diary has excerpts of Dukesang’s time in China, his Pacific journey, working with the railway, involvement with other Chinese Canadians, and the harsh realities of the era. It also starts with the fascinating story of how the diary was found and recovered.

In-between chapters, author David McIlwraith and Wanda Joy Hoe have jammed-packed historical accounts to provide more historical context. Many excerpts also include special highlights and historical revelations not previously known. Kenny's favourite is about Dukesang's house guest, *the* Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen had only been known to be in “Saltwater City” about 4 times, but his diary shows that he was here a fifth time that has been unrecorded until now.

It's a small but fulfilling account of early Chinese Canadian history here in Vancouver, available to be purchased here at MONOVA's gift shop.

One of its tenants was Chew Brothers' Grocery, having opened in the mid-1920s. Learn more about Dundarave Block in this week's edition of Time Travellers in the North Shore News!

Wearing a red dress pin is one of the many ways to honour and draw awareness towards the experiences of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People.

Last Thursday, April 30th, MONOVA facilitated a sold-out workshop to help members of our community craft their own beaded red dress pin under the guidance of our Indigenous Cultural Programmer, Tsawaysia Spukwus. Programming also included sharing stories to educate attendees on the memories of MMIW2S, reflecting the perspectives of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səl̓ílwətaɬ Nations, upon whose ancestral territories MONOVA resides.

Thank you to all of those who participated in recognition of this cause, and to BMO Financial Group for their generous support of the event.
