There will be a short presentation followed by a cake cutting and light refreshments. Wednesday August 26, at the North Sydney Historical Museum 309 Commercial St. North Sydney. Time 6pm. Had a gentleman from Yarmouth contact the museum and said that he had found this hat and was wondering if anyone had any idea what it was used for. When he told me it was white and North Sydney on it I immediately thought of Navy, but now that I look at it i’m not sure anybody have any idea of what this would’ve been from and what era.

Happy Canada Day from the North Sydney Historical Society and the Cultural Center. We live in a great country with many cultures and North Sydney has seen many over the years that have contributed much to our town.

The North Sydney Historical Society would like to thank Earl MacPherson and his wife Anne and staff from Earls Greenhouse for keeping the grounds of the museum and Cultural Center looking beautiful all summer and fall. Earl just planted summer marigolds today. There will be a plaque placed near the flowers soon stating that the grounds are cared for by the generosity of Earl and staff.

On June 30th, 1898, the SS Bruce made the first ever crossing between Port aux Basques and North Sydney. At the time, the route connected two countries rather than two provinces.

For decades, Marine Atlantic has been proud to help connect people, goods, and communities across the Cabot Strait – something we continue to do every day.
