The Neon Swamp Gallery

The Neon Swamp Gallery Donald (Duck) Squarey, owner of the Neon Swamp Gallery, is a self-taught abstract artist who grew up in the Town of Sydney Mines on Cape Breton Island.

Following high school Duck attended Saint Francis Xavier University and at an early age joined the ranks of the Nova Scotia Civil Service, working just shy of thirty-four years with the Department of Social/Community Services. In the early nineties, by way of general conversation with his wife, Duck made reference to painting. Several months later, he was completely surprised with a Christmas gift

of painting materials. From that point on painting became a passion for Duck and the stimulus for many a thoughtful moment. Duck has had his work shown in various local art shows and in the early 2000’s had a solo show at the Cape Breton University Art Gallery. About a year into retirement Duck felt it was the right time to pursue his dream of opening a gallery of his own and as result The Neon Swamp Gallery came to be. The Neon Swamp Gallery, not only features the work of Duck Squarey, but also currently offers pottery by Jitka Zgola and wood carvings by Donnie White.
