Glengarry Pioneer Museum

Glengarry Pioneer Museum Opened in 1962, the Glengarry Pioneer Museum consists of several nineteenth century log heritage buildings.

The museum's original structure started life as MacIntosh's Store in the 1840s. It then became the Star Inn, a stagecoach stop in the 1860s. It is this period that the inn is furnished to reflect...including the original barroom, believed to be one of the oldest in Eastern Ontario. We encourage you to step off the beaten path, between Ottawa and Montreal, and discover the magic of the Glengarry Pioneer Museum for yourself.

What a night for Glengarry!

Thank you to the more than 240 people who attended Saturday evening’s Trivia Night fundraiser in support of Glengarry’s four historical organizations: the Glengarry Pioneer Museum, Glengarry Nor’Westers & Loyalist Museum, Glengarry County Archives, and the Glengarry Historical Society.

It was a wonderful evening of fun, community, and friendly competition that raised more than $9,000 in support of local history and heritage initiatives!

A special thank you to County Archivist Allan MacDonald for emceeing the evening, and to Lee McKinnon for the lively “Name That Tune” entertainment.

We are also incredibly grateful to everyone who donated items to the Silent Auction — with more than 70 items generously bid on throughout the night. Thank you as well to everyone who contributed delicious baked goods for guests to enjoy.

Finally, thank you to the Township of North Glengarry for the use of the Michael Depratto Hall in Alexandria, along with all the staff and volunteers who helped set up and keep the evening running behind the scenes.

Events like this remind us just how strong and supportive our community truly is. Thank you all for making the evening such a success!

The museum opens this weekend, and it’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting season ahead!

We’ve got workshops for all ages, special events, and even a couple of last-minute additions to the calendar — including a lively Scottish Ceilidh and a fascinating guest speaker presentation on the Telegraph coming this July. There will be something happening at your community museum every single week!

Be sure to stop by this season and remember to register early for workshops, as spaces can fill quickly.

Our next workshop is Painting Gel Mandalas with artist Robin Patterson of The Crayon Box Collective Studio on June 13. We can’t wait to see you there!

What a fun evening of painting! Thanks to artist, Lorie Brown, for guiding and encouraging this crew of artists.

Some of our amazing volunteers are out surveying the museum in preparation for opening on the May long weekend. As a charitable organization we could not operate without our volunteers.

If you want a rewarding way to take part in your community, reach out and ask us about our Spring Work Bee on Saturday May 2nd.
New volunteers are most welcome, including High School volunteers looking for hours.

Happy National Volunteer Week!
