Established in 1969, The Ross Farm Museum is located on highway #12 in New Ross, Nova Scotia, just 15 minutes from the Lighthouse route, or 25 minutes from the Gloosecap trail. Our Museum is a living, working, farm museum depicting 150 years of agriculture in Nova Scotia. We are a single family upland farm on land originally granted to Captain William Ross. Ross Farm Museum is still being farmed w

ith Oxen, the way it was in the late 1800’s. In Rosebank Cottage, the original home of the Ross family built in 1817, you may see food being prepared over an open fire, straw hats being woven, wool or flax being spun, butter being churned, or many other skills being demonstrated that were daily chores for our forefathers, but are now almost lost. We have a working blacksmith shop where hardware is produced for the farm, as well we shoe approximately 60 pairs of oxen each year. There is also a working stave mill and cooperage producing barrels, the original workshop where products such as butter churns, spoons, buckets and even snow shoes are made, you might have a chance to take part in a class in our one room school. During your visit to Nova Scotia, Ross Farm Museum is definitely worth taking the time to visit, it will provide you an opportunity to experience "An Adventure in Rural Living." December 3rd & 4th
Step back in time to experience Christmas in the Country. At Rosebank Cottage sample sugar cookies & hot chocolate. Have fun locating all the gnomes located around the museum site. There will be craft activities in the schoolhouse and farm workshop. Weather permitting there will be horse drawn rides. Father Christmas will be on hand both Saturday and Sunday. The official Ross Farm Museum gala opening of ‘Wandering through Trees’ will take place on Friday, June 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. All welcome. Free admission. Light refreshments will be served.

An exciting art exhibition is coming to the Ross Farm Museum this June and July. “Wandering through Trees” is a celebration of trees and highlights their ecological impact and cultural value. The show features 21 artists from all four Atlantic provinces, and one international artist (from Portugal). Artists highlight the beauty of trees, their vast scale, and their relationship to forests and communities. Many of their depictions are playful and fantastical. Some works express concern for fires, droughts and changing environments. For others, trees form habitats for animals, lichen and fungi. There’s lots to see, from ceramics to fabric art to paintings and sculpture, in a show that encourages viewers to reflect on their own memories and experiences with trees. The exhibition is sponsored by the Robert Pope Foundation in partnership with Artsplace Gallery in Annapolis Royal, the Chester Art Centre, and Ross Farm Museum. ‘Wandering through Trees’ exhibition will be on the main level of the Learning Center at Ross Farm Museum from June 5 to July 31.

Today only (May 24th), join us on our first “A Beginner’s Orchard Talk.” This session will last between 1.5 to 2 hours and is designed for people with one or two trees or those interested in creating a backyard orchard. We will walk through the orchard and discuss different tree types and styles, rootstocks, pruning techniques, and planning strategies, all focused on growing and caring for fruit trees. At the end, we will return to the workshop to answer individual questions and address specific challenges.

This will be a very informal gathering where we can learn and share our love for apples. The walk will start at 1:30 pm in front of the workshop; general admission applies: https://rossfarm.novascotia.ca/visit
