Kate Anderson is our featured artist this week!

Kate is a acrylic painting artist based out of Nelson. We are always so amazed with what she brings in to display at here at the Visitor Centre and is currently our #1 selling artist in our gallery.

"I like to think that my paintings draw people because I offer a unique way to visualize thoughts, emotions, colour and light. This act of painting is both meditative and reflective, offering me an opportunity to experience the creative flow and find a sense of peace and fulfilment. It is a way that I can explore and communicate the beauty and complexity of my surroundings by capturing moods an moments that resonate with me."

We currently have a full stock of Kate's paintings and cards, but be aware... they sell fast!🙂

This weeks feature artist is Gillian Kloet

Gillian Kloet is an artist based on the traditional territories of the Sinixt, Ktunaxa, and Syilx peoples in Nelson, B.C. Through printmaking and community-engaged practice, she explores themes related to sense of place, memory, and respect for the natural world.
Drawing inspiration from nature, poetry, and folk art, Gillian Kloet creates prints that are both playful and sincere. She works from her kitchen table, carving and printing each linoleum block by hand. She aims to create simple prints that spark the imagination of the viewer.

We are so happy to have Gillian's prints displayed in our gallery🍄🌼

We are so in awe of Sab Curtis' brand new book she just released called "Rewired".

"After multiple traumatic brain injuries changed the course of her life, Sab found an unexpected path forward through art. What began as personal healing evolved into Rewired—a body of artwork, prose, and a growing community that encourages both self-reflection and resonance with others."

Sab has put so much love and care into this beautiful book. Come get yours before they are all gone :)

This week’s featured artist is Tom Haukaas, who also just so happens to be our June ArtWalk feature artist this Friday.

Tom Haukaas is a self-taught artist from Nelson BC, Canada. He has been showing work since 2013 in solo and group event exhibitions. “My acrylic paintings focus on light, form, and atmosphere. Water and rock define the work. Light transforms space, revealing tonal shifts and structural details”. The process stems from observation and iteration. Scenes emerge through systematic study. Composition is deconstructed, then rebuilt-tracing interactions of light, form, and space.

Here are a few examples of Tom’s past work. Make sure to visit us during the ArtWalk on Friday, June 26, 2026, 6:00-9:00pm, to view his current display and even get a chance to speak with Tom!

ArtWalk is an annual Nelson tradition that has united businesses, artists, and community members for over three decades. The event fills an array of unique venues with quality, locally produced artwork, and draws traffic to local businesses, increasing the visibility of our Nelson and area artists.

We hope to see you there!

This week’s featured artist is Dale Butt of Western Blue Studio based out of the Slocan Valley.

Dale paints through inspiration from her immediate world and surroundings. Rural mountain life, rushing rivers, the forest and the wildlife within all play a part in bringing themes and characters to life. Dale uses vibrant, strong colors over informal sketching, often blending colors directly on the board or canvas. She also has another unique painting style where she recycles tea bag paper and uses it as her canvas for specific pieces.

“My painting and my life are as one. I am happy to paint, and painting makes me happy. I am deeply affected by our place in times on this planet. My love for all creatures comes through in my paintings.”

A contemporary painter, Dale leans heavily towards the whimsical and the surreal. Her subjects, often animals, portray many different moods and expressions, ranging from joy, hope and sadness to comical absurdity.

We have many beautiful pieces of Dale’s in our gallery to check out 😊
