Welcome to the oldest town in the West Kootenays! George J. Ainsworth made mining claims in this region and was working the Lulu claim on Woodbury Creek in 1884. By 1891 Ainsworth was booming and boasted 2 general stores, a post office, 4 hotels, saloons, and many homes. The original store in this location was first owned by the Lindsay Merchantile Company. It was sold to, and named after Henry Giegerich in 1891. In 1913 John Bradley Fletcher was hired to run the store. Fletcher purchased the store in the late 1920`s and changed the name to J.B. Fletcher. He and his family ran the store for 60 years and closed in 1973. The Fletcher family established the J.B. Fletcher Restoration Society in 1988 to help preserve the region’s heritage.

Welcome Kiernan Fisher to JB Fletcher Museum and Gift Shop!

Kiernan‘s love of history and art makes him a great fit and asset here at JB Fletcher’s! Since June, he has been busy working behind the scenes helping us get ready to open.

Having Kiernan on staff means that we will now be open Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 to 5:00.

Some of you may have seen some activity around the J.B. Fletcher building. We are happy to announce that the Building Envelope Project is underway! 🔨

We’ve heard you! You’ve been missing us… We’ve missed you too!

Sorry for not keeping you posted as to what is happening at J.B. Fletcher Store Museum. Although we’ve been a little quiet on the posting side, we have been very busy behind the scenes!

And we are looking forward to opening our doors and having you come visit us again very soon!
