CFLM Finally Has a Logo
After becoming the national museum of the Royal Canadian Logistics Service (RCLS) in the early 2000’s, the CF Logistics Museum used the RCLS badge as its logo. It gradually became apparent that this hindered the Museum’s visibility. It gave people the impression our exhibits were the work of the Royal Canadian Logistics Service Advisor’s Office, or that of the RCLS Association. While in fact for decades now, there has been a tiny team with modest budget building a large, impressive collection to conserve and promote the history of the RCLS.
Several Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) museums have distinct logos to identify themselves which still reflect their link to their CAF unit or element. The aim is to improve awareness of the existence of the CFLM among CAF members and the civilian public.
The CFLM’s Committee members voted on the criteria for the design. These were provided to a professional graphic artist. After three main rounds of sketch reviews and much debate, the logo was chosen. The most difficult aspect was agreeing on the elements desired in the logo and on what combination was most aesthetically pleasant.
The minimum criteria were:
- No more than three colours. Those of the CAF’s three environments, sea,
land, air.
- Contain the shield from the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps badge, to
reflect the origins of the museum. Born out of the RCOC school at the
Longue-Pointe Depot, Montreal.
- Contain the crossed chain links from the RCLS badge, that denote the
strength in the support provided to the operational elements of CAF.
- Contains a maple leaf or the Canadian crown.
