In its programming, Pangée focuses on materiality, together with personal narratives and women, non-binary or queer perspectives.

s la direction de la fondatrice et commissaire Julie Côté, en collaboration avec Sophie Latouche et Raphaëlle Cormier (associées de la galerie et commissaires), la galerie présente des artistes locaux et internationaux, principalement émergent à mi-carrière. La programmation met particulièrement l'accent sur la matérialité, ainsi que sur les récits personnels et les perspectives féminines, non binaires ou queers, en plus de s'intéresser à une vaste gamme de médias en réunissant des artistes de différentes géographies. Pangée opère à partir d'un bâtiment historique centenaire – connu sous le nom d'ancien consulat tchèque – qui surplombe le parc du Mont-Royal.

Under the direction of founder and head curator Julie Côté, together with Sophie Latouche and Raphaëlle Cormier (gallery associates and curators), Pangée represents a local and an international lineup of emerging and mid-career artists. The curators are interested in a vast range of media by bringing together artists from different geographies exploring common themes or sensibilities in their practice. Pangée operates out of a historic hundred-year-old building – known as the former Czech Consulate – which overlooks the Mont-Royal park.

Russell Banx, Catherine Desroches & Jennifer Rose Sciarrino

Join us this Thursday, November 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. for the opening of the group exhibition 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, which brings together the sensitive lines of Russell Banx and Catherine Desroches’ drawings with the sculptural materiality of Jennifer Rose Sciarrino. Exploring the interconnections and porous thresholds between the human and natural worlds, their works suggest an expanded collective consciousness and a form of communion.

The recurring motif of a house and a flower, in addition to various erasures of the embossed titles, are punctuated by rings of jaunty buttons. Smillie composes works by selecting elements that share formal rather than functional affinities. This intervention, more a delicate adjustment than a complete dismantling, valorizes and highlights a shared material past that undermines function-based hierarchies. The result is a playful reverence for time passing, and its imprint on an object as its cultural relevance and usefulness diminish.

Smillie compose ses œuvres en sélectionnant des éléments qui partagent des affinités formelles plutôt que fonctionnelles. Cette intervention, qui relève davantage d’un ajustement délicat que d’un démantèlement complet, valorise et met en évidence un passé matériel commun qui ébranle les hiérarchies fondées sur la fonction. Il en résulte une forme de révérence ludique envers le passage du temps et son empreinte sur les objets, à mesure que leur pertinence culturelle et leur utilité s’effacent.

Brandon Morris solo Tissu Expansé

If you are in Paris do not miss Tissu Expansé Brandon Morris first solo exhibition in France. Featuring five new Ghost Dresses produced in a residence in Paris, this new group of sculptures extends his ongoing material investigations– instead of shaping the garments around mannequins, he uses air as a structuring force. Each sewn form is coated in resin, then inflated. Through this process, Morris continues his exploration of the boundary between fashion and sculpture, transforming familiar materials into spectral forms that suggest both elegance and unease.

Si vous êtes à Paris, ne manquez pas Tissu Expansé, la première exposition solo de Brandon Morris en France. Présentant cinq nouvelles Ghost Dresses réalisées lors d’une résidence à Paris, ce nouveau groupe de sculptures prolonge ses recherches sur les matériaux : au lieu de façonner les vêtements autour de mannequins, il utilise l’air comme force structurante. Chaque forme cousue est recouverte de résine, puis gonflée. À travers ce processus, Morris poursuit son exploration de la frontière entre la mode et la sculpture, transformant des matériaux familiers en formes spectrales qui suggèrent à la fois l’élégance et le malaise.
