We are saddened to announce the passing of Humbert the Cat, beloved friend and roommate of former Me Mom & Morgentaler / Kingpins / Planet Smashers saxophonist and current producer of Osmosis Unlimited and Clan Destiny, and Alley Cat Gallery curator, John Jordan.
Humbert was killed instantly in a car accident on Friday January 3 at around 6pm. The driver brought his body to Vet Chez Vous on Sherbrooke Street West and Marcil near Girouard Park and alerted Samer, the co-owner of the Dep Humbert spent most of his time in. Samer alerted Mr. Jordan who went directly to the vet and learned of Humbert’s death.
Humbert was adopted on April 20, 2013 from the SPCA on Jean-Talon near Decarie after having been rescued as a stray on the streets and alleyways of Verdun.
He was a mix of Tiger Tabby and Maine C**n. He was well-known as the “bodega cat” of Fadi and Samer’s depanneur at the corner of Sherbrooke Street West and Harvard Avenue.
Beloved by one and all, his passing leaves a great hole in the community of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG).
Mr. Jordan immortalized him in song in 2019 upon the YouTube and Bandcamp releases of “My Kitty Cat (Humbert’s Song)”YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2WJ412X_D8

A memorial concert, Humbertpalooza, will occur outside Fadi and Samer’s Dep at noon on what would have been Humbert’s 12th adoption anniversary – Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Julien Arsenault will open the ceremony with a solo acoustic performance. Headlining will be NDG’s Encore Encore Encore A Capella Choir, led by the renowned Frank Kermit, performing a selection of cat-themed songs from TV shows past and present.
