The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) is a public, not-for-profit, art gallery located in the Mississauga Civic Centre, right on Celebration Square and across from Square One Shopping Centre. The AGM is proud to admit people free of charge, serve communities, and provide positive visual art experiences for all visitors. The AGM provides platforms for exhibitions, collections and experimentation in contemporary culture with a recent focus on artists and cultural producers from Indigenous, newcomer and youth communities. Through a broad range of educational programs, artist projects and other forms of critical dialogue, the AGM seeks to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries, foster community, and provide spaces where alternative modes of thought are supported and activated in tangible ways. The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) would like to acknowledge and give thanks to the land on which we work. The AGM has the privilege of operating in the territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation and traditional homeland of the Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee nations. We are thankful to the many First Nations, Inuit, Métis and global Indigenous peoples who call this region home. In partnership with 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 and the 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗮, join us on Saturday, October 24 for a curated journey through three exhibitions, culminating in the opening reception for Aideen Barry: 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 at Oakville Galleries.⁠

The tour begins at 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 with the opening of Shary Boyle’s 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. From there, the ARTbus travels to the 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗮 for a guided introduction to A.S.M. Kobayashi’s 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗡𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸.⁠

The journey continues to 𝗢𝗮𝗸𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗲, where participants will experience Aideen Barry’s 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀, her inaugural solo exhibition in Canada. The exhibition brings together film, animation, embroidered drawings, and printed film stills, weaving together folklore, oral histories, ecology, and archival research.⁠

The afternoon concludes in 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀, where guests will continue experiencing 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 and join the exhibition opening reception, with refreshments, light bites, and remarks by Aideen Barry and Interim Executive Director Jenifer Papararo.⁠

A little creativity from Cawthra Park’s Grade 9 students! 🎨

Students recently visited the Art Gallery of Mississauga for a gallery tour before getting hands-on with their own creations, making polymer clay minis and “scanned self-portraits.”

We loved seeing their personalities, interests and creativity come to life through these projects!

📣 HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF ARTS & CULTURE IN MISSISSAUGA

The Art Gallery of Mississauga is seeking engaged community leaders to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help guide the future of one of Mississauga’s leading public arts institutions.

We’re looking for collaborative, community-minded individuals who believe art, culture and creative spaces are essential to a thriving city and who are ready to contribute their expertise, perspectives and ideas to the AGM.

We are particularly seeking experience in:
• Finance, audit or accounting
• Human resources and DEI
• Governance and board secretary roles
• Artistic practice, artists and collections
• Fundraising, sponsorship and community engagement

As a volunteer Board member, you’ll help provide strategic oversight and governance, champion the AGM in the community, support fundraising initiatives and contribute to committees, events and the Gallery’s continued growth.

We welcome candidates who reflect the diversity, experiences and perspectives of Mississauga and the communities we serve.

What a wonderful evening of conversation at the Art Gallery of Mississauga on Tuesday!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our sold-out panel discussion, Researching and Reclaiming Histories in the Archive. It was incredible to see a full house come together for such a thoughtful and engaging conversation about archives, family histories, memory, and the ways artists can reclaim and reshape narratives through their work.

A special thank you to our panelists A.S.M. Kobayashi, Christina Leslie, and Kristen den Hartog for sharing their work, experiences, and perspectives, and to Steffi Ng, TD Assistant Curator at the AGM, for guiding the conversation.

Today, the Art Gallery of Mississauga joins communities across Canada in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities.

Reconciliation begins with truth, listening and learning. As a gallery rooted in community, we believe art and storytelling can create space for connection, reflection and a deeper understanding of the histories and experiences that shape the land we share.

We encourage our community to take time today to listen, learn, reflect and join the conversation.

What a wonderful weekend celebrating art and community! 🎨💛

The Art Gallery of Mississauga was thrilled to join Visual Arts Mississauga for Art in the Park!

Our Program and Education Manager, Sabrina Boyer, along with our amazing AGM volunteers, spent the day connecting with the community, sharing all the exciting and accessible exhibitions, programs, workshops, and opportunities available at the Gallery.

Visitors also had the chance to get creative with us through a hands-on button-making activity, creating their own wearable works of art!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, said hello, made a button, and learned a little more about the AGM.

We love being out in the community and creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience, explore, and make art. Because art is for everyone, and we’re always excited to bring art beyond the Gallery walls and into our community.

Researching and Reclaiming Histories in the Archive

How can artists use archives not simply to uncover history, but to reclaim, reinterpret, and reshape it?

Join us at the Art Gallery of Mississauga for a conversation with A.S.M. Kobayashi, Christina Leslie, and Kristen den Hartog exploring how artists and writers use archives, family histories, and creative practice to reclaim narratives and reconnect with collective histories.

Together, they’ll explore institutional archives, family heirlooms, historical records, and personal histories, and how these materials can become tools for reconstructing narratives, honouring fractured lineages, and reconnecting with disrupted histories.

Moderated by Steffi Ng, TD Assistant Curator at the Art Gallery of Mississauga.
