With the conclusion of our 2026 season (our last day was Saturday, Aug. 29th), the board of the Miramichi History Museum would like to thank everyone who visited this summer. So many people from all over our province, our country and from all over the world. As usual, many were children who so enjoy our displays and learning about Miramichi’s history. We are so proud of our little museum and the part it plays in the community.
When the founders created our museum 129 years ago, we like to think that we are upholding what they envisioned: a place for historical preservation, a place for research and a place of learning.
Nothing encapsulates our goals more so than these pictures. This Friday Daphne Chickloski, and her daughter Nevaeh, spent time exploring our museum and sketching some of our natural history displays. Awesome….so nice to see!

We are open for the summer season! Please stop on by and enjoy our beautiful displays of Miramichi’s cultural, and natural, history.
Hours are 10:00AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Saturday. Admission is still only $3:00, children twelve and under free!

A truly unique, and important, artifact was recently donated to the Miramichi History Museum. It is a WWI era, portable recruitment office scale. Owned by a local family since shortly after the war, it had been repainted in the 1980s. This actual scale would have been used to weigh local recruits, all over Miramichi, during WWI. It could be packed up and brought to any local village or community. At the time, a recruit had to be over 125 pounds and at least five feet four inches!
