Join us at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre on Saturday, October 31 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM for a day of spooky family fun!

This year, we’re exploring the strange and mysterious world of urban legends and folklore. Enjoy activities throughout the Cultural Centre, including:

🎨 Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Arts and Culture Picnic at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre last weekend!

We were pleased to host this community celebration as part of Ontario Culture Days, with the Haliburton Highlands selected as one of Ontario’s 2026 Provincial Festival Hubs.

👏 A big thank you to all the artists, musicians, performers, community partners, and organizations who helped make the day possible. We would also like to thank our dedicated volunteers for helping everything run smoothly, and of course, thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us!

🎉 The Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village and Nature's Place will be open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am - 4 pm until October 10.

‼ Join us from 11 am - Noon on Fridays for Toddler Discovery Zone, and Saturdays for Hands-On Activities in Nature's Place! Coming up tomorrow is Butterfly Mobiles!

🏠🎬 Film Screening: The Nest (2025) on Thursday, October 8 at 1:00 PM. 🎬🏠

The Nest (2025), co-directed by Chase Joynt and Julietta Singh, follows Singh as she returns to her Winnipeg childhood home to say goodbye to her aging mother, uncovering 140 years of interconnected feminist, Indigenous, Deaf, and immigrant histories embedded in the house. This film explores the importance of bringing forgotten pasts into light, appreciating the impact individuals leave behind.

🏡 Long-Term Care Residents Visit the Heritage Village!

❤️ This September, residents from Hyland Crest and Highland Wood bussed in and visited the Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village! They were able to explore our heritage buildings, reminiscing and sharing memories of attending a one room schoolhouse, handling traditional logging tools, and working with historic kitchen gadgets.

🧶 We were also joined by Andrea Coysh, who demonstrated traditional weaving on the barn loom and invited our guests to try their hand at weaving. Thank you to the residents and staff from Hyland Crest and Highland Wood for visiting us and sharing your memories! ❤️

🍂 The Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village and Nature’s Place remain open Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, until Thanksgiving weekend. Don’t miss your chance to visit before we wrap up for the season!

🎬 Free Documentary Screening Tomorrow: Birth of a Family (2017)

Join us tomorrow at 1:00PM or 5:00PM for a free screening of Birth of a Family, presented in collaboration with the Haliburton County Public Library.

Birth of a Family follows three sisters and a brother who were separated as children during the Sixties Scoop and adopted into different families across North America. Decades later, the four siblings meet together for the first time.

Come enjoy this moving documentary and learn about this chapter in Canadian history as four siblings reunite and piece together their shared past.

A sneak peak of our next exhibit Letters to Earth: Between Despair and Hope, curated by Carmel Brennan, and featuring work by 26 artists.

Through her curatorial experience, Brennan has observed that audiences respond most strongly to the creative arts when stories are shared that communicate urgency, care, and meaning. To participate in Letters to the Earth, artists are asked to handwrite a personal letter to the Earth and submit it to Brennan with their artwork. This gesture underscores Brennan’s belief that environmental action must be personal to inspire real change.

Join us at the Opening Reception on Saturday, September 26 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Opening remarks will begin at 1:30 pm, followed by a Dance-Mime performance by contributing artist Noriko Yamamoto.

The exhibit will be on display at the Agnes Jamieson Gallery until November 28, 2026.
