Join us this Thursday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. for our monthly speaker series as we welcome Dr. Catherine Wilson, University of Guelph, Professor Emeritus and Director of the Rural Diary Archives website.

Dr. Wilson will help us uncover the lives of Rural Families. In 2015 she and the University of Guelph launched the Rural Diary archives showcasing over 200 diaries from 1800 to 1960 in Ontario. These diaries were transcribed by volunteers and then digitized. Dr. Wilson’s presentation will illustrate some of the diaries from the collection including some from Halton as well as the importance in using diaries in you own research at: https://ruraldiaries.uoguelph.ca

This home was built in 1857 for Hugh Foster’s family. Mr. Foster died in 1858. The home was sold in 1875 to Duncan Dewar, a law student who later became an insurance agent in the Community.
