This week, Prairie Rose Public Schools brought Kaleidoscope for the Arts to the Esplanade! 🎨🎵
For nearly two decades now, Kaleidoscope has highlighted the creative achievements of students across the division through a day of performances, exhibition of student artworks, and workshops facilitated by professional musicians or artists.

One of the day’s workshop facilitators was TREX exhibiting artist, Nate McLeod! In conjunction with the group show “Assembly Manual: Sites for Existence”, currently on view in the Gallery Foyer, he worked with students to create paper maquettes. In his own artistic practice, Nate uses maquettes – or, paper models – to plan his paintings; testing out different compositions, colours and lighting.🕯️

All our TREX exhibition catalogues feature lesson plans and activities for all ages. Nate’s full Paper Maquettes lesson is available in the Assembly Manual catalogue, accessible here: https://bit.ly/4dUSlxX

New to Esplanade Project Space is "Interoceptive Sensing" by Kara Sloan! 🌀

In "Interoceptive Sensing", Kara presents visual interpretations of her body’s internal landscape, newly reconfigured by onset chronic illness. Like sight and touch, interoception refers to another of the body’s senses. It interprets internal signals and communicates actions towards regulation: hunger pangs cue eating, an itch prompts a scratch. But what were to happen if those signals became haywire? How do you begin to re-orient yourself and navigate back to a balanced state of being? Kara responds by going in search of a map.

Curated by Thea Sleight, Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre.

On view from May 16 to September 26, 2026. Take a gander! 👀

Assembly Manual: Sites for Existence is now on view at the Esplanade! 🏢

Each work presented in this group exhibition explores elements of built environments – or sites for existence – including urban / suburban, interior / exterior, and private / public space. While the human figure is absent throughout the body of work, we are ever aware that these sites were built by and for humans and so are left to contemplate how we might interact with and relate to them. Ultimately, what effects, for better or for worse, have these sites for existence had on our individual and collective psyches?

Featuring work by Nate Macleod, Morgan Melenka, and the artist-duo NASARIMBA!

Curated by Sierra Zukowski, TREX Southeast, Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre.
