Another historic photo from Mount Agassiz taken in 1961 by Jack Taylor. Parks Canada built the Ski Patrol building to house the patrol hut and public washrooms. McCreary Economic Development tried to get a heritage status for this building as it was 40 years old when the ski area closed but the architecture was not significant and not built in the style of other parks buildings like the east gate.

Mount Agassiz had a 40 year history in McCreary & RMNP but closed in 2000. This photo is from 1965 when Parks Canada employed Noel Cantin as head of the professional ski patrol. The volunteer Canadian Ski Patrol System (CSPS) members in brown were Ron Turner and Jim Buckingham from Wpg. The other pro-patrollers were George Gardiner and Clive Davis from McCreary. Don Duchart from McCreary was on pro-patrol in 1965 also but missed the photo op. Parks Canada built the ski patrol building that housed the public washrooms in the back. This building remains at Agassiz today as a picnic shelter that is open in all seasons.

St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church in McCreary was built in 1930 to serve the town’s Anglican community.⛪️

It became part of the South Parkland Parish within the Diocese of Brandon and has long been a place of worship and fellowship for local residents.📜

The church’s design is simple, reflecting the practical style of rural Anglican buildings of the time.🔨

For decades it has provided services, teaching, and community support, standing as a steady presence in McCreary.📖

Its history highlights the role small congregations played in shaping life across Manitoba’s towns.✨️

Saying good-bye to Irene Boiteau who worked tirelessly to preserve McCreary’s past on the McCreary Heritage Advisory Board. Irene and Wilf served on the board from the 1990s. Irene was President for many years continuing to lead the organization in that role until 2020. Rest in peace Irene.
