Thanks to a local artist Kathy at Bailey Studio I joined a great group of artists this weekend to paint en plein air at St Peter’s Church on Maple Lake. The church ladies made a fabulous lunch for us and we were surrounded by inspirational scenery and new friends. Unfortunately I talked too much and I had to finish the painting in my studio today. There is something about old churches.

I’m so proud of my daughter for waking up at 4:15 to make it to work in Huntsville for 7 am. Bonus is she gets to see great sunsets on her way. She sent me this photo and said she wished she could have time to sit there and enjoy the view - so I decided to make a painting so she could see the view every day. And I decided to put a Muskoka Chair on the store with her in it. I really enjoy being an artist and being able to create moments like this. Just finished the final details on this painting that I started at Doris McCarthy’s Fools Paradise as resident artist in May. It is titled “Reflecting in Solitude”. In the midst of renovations it is often hard to find a painting spot - but today I really remembered how important it is to make time for the things you love to do and to use your talents.

Reflecting in Solitude, 24x30 oil on canvas. In a time of new growth and solitude, this old tree reflects. Is another storm coming in or will the sun decide to shine once again?
It’s not quite finished - still working on the bottom and sides of pond. As I currently live in the country and visit the city and all its opportunities, I find it interesting to compare the lake to the concrete pond. Both have their beauties.

Then and now: 45 years later finally got to reconnect with my university roommate. I’m sure York University will never be the same. I did definitely look like the young girl from the country that I was. Ingrid can’t wait to get together again soon.
