The ART SHACK GALLERY has been in Margaretsville for over 33 years, run by the ARTISTS CIRCLE of ANNAPOLIS VALLEY, an artist cooperative.

Open each summer, local folks and visitors from around the world drop to meet the artists and purchase unique art. The ARTISTS CIRCLE is a group of contemporary artists living and working in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. Beginning about 1980, several artists in the Greenwood and Kingston area got together to paint, promote their paintings and create an informal association of painters. In 1991 several of our Margaretsville members explored the possibility of using a vacant fish house on the Bay of Fundy in the town of Margaretsville as an art studio and a place to exhibit and sell paintings. One of these members was Edna Morley whose husband Carl owned the building. Starting on a small scale, renovating the building into a studio/gallery, and gradually adding new items, we finally developed a system of management that saw increasing sales each successive year. In addition there are cards, prints (framed and unframed), and numerous other works on exhibit and for sale.

Another successful Plein Aire painting morning took place today with a great turn out (15) including a few art students from The Middleton High School. Thank you again Lisa from Town Of Middleton Office for organizing this great opportunity and Steven Coffin from The Artists' Circle for spending some time explaining a few key points about Plein Air Painting. Thanks also to The Artists' Circle of Annapolis Valley for a generous donation to help purchase additional supplies for this recurring event.

This photo is from my morning walk along the Annapolis River. I'm calling it "Reflections", appropriately titled for this Thanksgiving Weekend. Take some time to reflect and be thankful for what is good in your life in these crazy times in the world. Happy Thanksgiving Weekend and be safe.

This Thursday's Presentation on the history of The Artists' Circle and the Art Shack Gallery is cancelled. But..... Our "Beauty of Aging" show will still dorn the walls of CORAH from now until early December!. Come out and see what our talented artists have created!

On Monday (Sept 28th) 12 of our 16 Art Shack Gallery participants gathered for a wind up social / meeting / bbq. Although the weather dampened the party plan of outdoors, it didn't dampen our spirits. We all got to know each other a little better, learn a little more and start preparation for 2027 by sharing thoughts and ideas. We thank you for supporting us through the 2026 season - a record sales year.

Not only is there a lot of interesting history to share about our 35 years as The Art Shack Gallery in Margaretsville, but the Artists' Circle of Annapolis Valley, the group that our gallery artists as well as many others are members of, have 50 years of amazing history since our inception. Come out and enjoy a short presentation by a few of our Artists on October 8th. at CORAH. *Pre registratioat required

Today we close after another great season. We, the artists of The Art Shack Gallery in Margaretsville share a huge THANK YOU to all of our wonderful supporters. Our artists will be busy throughout the rest of the year restocking for our opening June 2027. I'm already excited to see what their talents will bring.

Our Last but certainly not Least Artist of the Week: Nicole Ruuska
This lovely and extremely talented lady works in acrylic and watercolour and in both mediums creates the finest detail in her paintings. Using a variety of surfaces, Nicole primarily focuses on birds and wildlife. Just a few days left this season to see hers and 15 other talented artist's work! Open 10 - 5 daily, until end of day this sunday.

The Middleton Wetlands Trail was scattered with creativity at the Plein Air painting event on Tuesday morning. The sun was shining and member Steven Coffin did a wonderful job presenting the group with information about Plein Air Painting and a few tips to get them started. Approximately 15 artists and budding artists attended. Thank you to the Artists' Circle members and Lisa from The Middleton Recreation Department for co-organizing a very successful experience.

Wednesday Artist of the Week - Marie Christine Gonon
New to the Art Shack Gallery, this artist is far from new from painting. Marie Christine has explored about every medium you can imagine and works in many styles. This season she brighten our walls with some beautiful abstract work, as well as wonderful watercolour paintings. Come in soon if you wish to see her and 15 other local artists work. Open 10 - 5 until end of day Sept 20th.

Monday's Feature Artist: Marita Seggewiss
Also known as "the blueberry lady" as she has gotten quite an audience with her Blueberry Paintings. Marita also paints subjects that depict not only Nova Scotia, but Canada as a whole. Experienced in oils and watercolours. Marita now works primarily in acrylics. Open daily 10 - 5, closing Sept 20th for the season.
