Visit our museum to learn about the history of Lucan Biddulph and the surrounding area, including exhibits on the Wilberforce Black Settlement that predated Lucan, the infamous Black Donnellys, and so much more!

🔦 A museum looks a little different after dark…

When the lights go down and the doors close, some of the most curious stories come to life.

Join us for Curiosities After Dark, featuring Dustin Wade of Wade Manor, Woodstock, Ontario’s haunted museum.

As a collector of dark and unusual Canadian artifacts, Dustin explores the lesser-known and sometimes unsettling side of Canada’s history through the objects he has collected and the stories they tell.

For this special evening, Dustin will bring a curated selection of macabre artifacts from his personal collection to the Lucan Area Heritage & Donnelly Museum. From old asylums and jails to funeral homes, Dustin will offer a glimpse into some of the darker chapters of Canadian history.

Come hear the stories, discover the artifacts, and see what happens when history gets a little haunting.

If you guessed desks from the Donnelly Schoolhouse you were right!

These school desks, generously loaned to us by Ray Fazakas, were once inside the Donnelly Schoolhouse. They were last used in 1939, the same year the schoolhouse closed its doors.

The photograph, also loaned by Fazakas, gives us a glimpse inside the schoolhouse and shows the very desks where local students once sat and learned.

2,222 POPPIES & COUNTING!

WE DID IT! 🎉 Thanks to our amazing community, we’ve officially reached our goal of 2,222 handmade, one-of-a-kind poppies!

That means we have enough to decorate the Lucan Legion and Granton Cenotaph for Remembrance Day. What an incredible milestone!

But we’re not stopping here! We still want your poppies until the end of September and would love to keep growing this project and bringing even more poppies to Lucan.

Every poppy is a beautiful expression of remembrance, creativity, and community. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this project so special!

🔎 WHAT’S IT WEDNESDAY - Answer Reveal! 🔍

If you guessed a Zamboni, you were right! ❄️

This was actually a water wagon used to flood the ice at the arena. Operated by Lucanite Wilf Hodgins from 1949–1966, this machine is fondly remembered as Lucan’s first Zamboni.

After each game, Wilf would head out onto the ice with the water wagon to help keep the arena ice in shape for the next group of skaters. And, in order to keep from slipping, he wore cleats on the ice! ⛸️

Many Lucan locals have fond memories of Wilf and his Zamboni, and we loved hearing your memories shared in the comments on Wednesday’s post.

Our community has created 1,963 knitted and crocheted poppies, we need just 259 more to reach our goal!

These poppies will decorate the Lucan Legion and Granton Cenotaph for Remembrance Day.
