June 04, 2026 | 5:30pm - 7pm | Stewarding a Future for Napi's River and Forests w/ CPAWS | Fort Whoop-Up

Vital for life on the Alberta Prairie, and beloved by many Albertans, Napi-tahtaa — Napi’s River — is increasingly under strain as a result of overuse and abuse, as well as industrial resource extraction like clearcut logging in the Eastern Slopes and headwaters region.

CPAWS Southern Alberta's Conservation Science & Program Manager Josh Killeen will explore the threats facing Napi’s River, the aquatic species-at-risk who call it home, like our native trout, and how we might better steward these sacred lands and waters.

Weather permitting, we’ll also take our talk outside, to explore the river valley and celebrate forests, fish, and rivers.

This event is a part of the 2026 Programming Passport in collaboration w/ Helen Schuler Nature Centre!

May 31, 2026 | 1pm - 3pm | Expressive Landscapes w/ Carla Beres

Wander 'Down in the Valley' and let the coulees lead the way. This playful afternoon invites you to slow down, look closely, and respond to the landscape through drawing, painting, whatever your artistic practice may be. Bring hills, shadows, and stories to life while getting curious about the images that call to you—and the meanings they quietly hold. A mindful, creative pause rooted in place. Materials provided, but please feel welcome to bring your own to use.

This event is complementary to our current exhibit “Down in The Valley“ which explores human connections and dependence upon the Oldman River for life on the prairies. This exhibit is located in the lower-level exhibit space at The Galt and runs until August 09th, 2026.

Saturday, May 30, 2026, 1 - 3pm - History on Tap: Liquor Labels as Discourse

Enjoy history on tap with Stephanie Laine Hamilton at Theoretically Brewing as she presents History on Tap: Liquor Labels as Discourse.

One hundred years after alcohol prohibition ended in Alberta, what have liquor labels been communicating to their patrons? The short answer: quite a lot. Critical analysis of advertising discourses—like beer and liquor labels—reveals rich layers of meaning that help contextualize the past. From regional variations and brewers’ specifications to business strategies and ideological frameworks, the closer one looks at a liquor label, the more it reveals.

Join us for a spirited exploration of one hundred years of liquor labels and the stories they tell.
