Tomorrow, Wednesday May 27: LIVE at the ALTERNATOR Artist Talk with Samantha Wigglesworth

LIVE AT THE ALTERNATOR // FEATURING SAMANTHA WIGGLESWORTH

Experience the heartbeat of Kelowna’s art scene: live!

Join us TOMORROW for “Live at The Alternator”, a monthly talk show hosted by local contemporary artist Kel Taylor. Set in the beautiful Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, this series brings you raw, uncensored interviews with the creative dynamos shaping our city.

In this edition, Kel sits down with Samantha Wigglesworth! Sam () isn’t your average artist—they’re a creative force who thrives on pushing boundaries. Challenging the current violent and hostile tide of North American conservative rhetoric Sam provides a platform through portraiture for their gender nonconforming subjects to be seen and “heard.” In a political climate that struggles to find peace and foster inclusivity, Sam’s work is a beacon and the spotlight is on them in our 4th episode of Live at The Alternator.

When: May 27th | Doors: 5:30 PM | Showtime: 6:00 PM
Where: The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, 421 Cawston Ave, Unit 103.
The Vibe: Expect offbeat questions, unscripted brilliance, and the kind of spontaneous energy that only happens in a room full of creatives.
RSVP here so we know you’re joining us: https://bit.ly/4tHNjup.

We believe in building a creative community where everyone belongs. This event is open to all. For those in a position to give, we invite you to pay it forward. Your generosity keeps our doors open to everyone, creates access for all, and sustains the programs that enrich our collective cultural life. We gratefully accept contributions by cash or online: https://bit.ly/41PThOF.

🎨 UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS | Supporting the Next Generation of Artists 🎨
The Lake Country Art Gallery is proud to continue our long-standing tradition of supporting the UBCO Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program! By providing a professional, public platform for graduating artists, we bridge the gap between academic programs and our vibrant local community.

This month, we are thrilled to host the final thesis exhibitions for two brilliant MFA candidates. These shows represent the absolute culmination of their intensive, multi-year graduate work:
✨ ‘Collapsed Within’ by Pegah Khor
✨ ‘Everyday Existence as Resistance’ by Samantha Wigglesworth

The UBCO MFA program is known for pushing the boundaries of contemporary art, and these two exhibitions are no exception.

🎬✨ And That’s a Wrap on HECKLERS!
What an incredible journey this exhibition has been.

An exhibition of this scale doesn’t just happen, it takes a village of dedicated, passionate individuals working tirelessly behind the scenes.

🌟 A massive thank you to Curator Josh Willdigg and Gallery Manager Petrina McNeill!
Both went far above and beyond their regular workloads, dedicating endless hours, and energy to bring this complex theme to life. Thank you for your late nights, and your commitment to our arts community.

🛠️ To the incredible setup crew and volunteers who lent their hands, time, and muscle to install the artwork, hang the exhibit, and get the gallery show-ready. We couldn’t have done this without you!

🎨Thank you to every single participating artist who contributed their stories, their vulnerability, and their brilliant interpretations of what it means to face a heckler.

And finally, THANK YOU to everyone who visited, commented, shared our reels, and supported local art over the last few weeks.
The gallery doors are closing on this chapter, but stay tuned, we have some incredibly exciting things lined up next. ✨
