Two very different stories are now on display at McArthur Place, taking visitors from Alberta 70 million years ago to a time when a handwritten letter could be the only connection between people separated by hundreds of kilometres.
🦖 Dinosaurs and Alberta: A Tale as Old as Time
This exhibit was researched and created by our wonderful summer student Emily, who also produced the original dinosaur illustrations made especially for this exhibit. Discover why Alberta has become one of the world’s great places for dinosaur discoveries, learn about the Western Interior Seaway and fossilization, and meet remarkable Alberta dinosaurs including Albertosaurus, Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai, and the heavily armoured Borealopelta.
✉️ Yours Sincerely: The Lost Art of Letter Writing
Before phones, email, and instant messaging, letters connected families, friends, and businesses across enormous distances. This exhibit explores cursive writing, cross-writing, and the changing importance of handwritten correspondence, using letters from the museum’s Spencer/Deschambeau Collection. Donated by Tannie Deschambeau (née Spencer), the collection preserves around a century of one family’s correspondence, including letters dating back to 1885.
