📍 LOCAL NEWS — Historic Bennett House Torn Down in Fortune

A former HGTV host says he's devastated after the historic Bennett House in his hometown of Fortune was demolished this week.

Ambrose Price — who built a career reimagining spaces and later became known for his television design work — launched an online campaign to save the property when he heard it was destined for the wrecking ball.

But when he came out of a meeting on Tuesday, an excavator was already tearing the building down. He's been told a parking lot will go up in its place.

Price says Fortune — the gateway to St. Pierre et Miquelon, which draws large numbers of tourists every summer — is losing its built heritage. He's calling on communities across the province to take heritage seriously and reimagine historic spaces before they're lost.

"How do we help municipalities realise the beauty in their towns, and the beauty in the history... the architecture around before it becomes a pile of rubble?"
